I watched this video where this dude who’s never seen spn watches only the first and last eps:
And it was a fun time! Great video concept and he kept it snappy which I appreciated (tbh I wouldn’t have watched it if it was longer than 45 mins). But from my particular spn perspective (queer dean truther + heller + finale hater) there were some very amusing tidbits:
During the first ep he commented on the gratuitous shot of Jess in a crop top and panties, saying ‘oh so the target audience for this show is 13yo boys’… and he’s right! At the start that WAS the target audience, and the showrunners continued to insist that was the target audience long after it became clear that the ACTUAL fanbase was largely girls and women
Following on from this, during the last ep the only gratuitous sexy shot we get is of shirtless Sam fresh from the shower… Dylan (I believe that’s the name of the video maker) didn’t comment on this but I found it very funny to have such a clear visual indication of the show’s target audience shifting over the years
At the start of the last ep Dylan asks where Dean’s girlfriend is when he’s waking up alone, and says ‘oh he doesn’t have a girlfriend he has a dog ok’, then when we see someone is making breakfast he’s like ‘oh is this Dean’s wife? Oh… no he doesn’t have a wife, he just has his brother, who he apparently lives with’ 💀💀💀
He also says something along the lines of ‘I thought in 15 years he would have gotten a love interest’ LMAO OH DYLAN IF ONLY YOU KNEW
When Sam mentions Cas, Dylan is trying to guess who Cas is, and says ‘her full name is Cassidy and she was an evil person who then turned good and helped the brothers’ and yknow what, spot on, even the female part since they gave Cas Anna’s storyline
During Dean’s death scene (which Dylan correctly called cheap and unsatisfying) he commented that the dialogue between the brothers felt weirdly romantic coded… Dylan, buddy… these fkn writers and their inability to write emotional intimacy between men without relying on romance tropes… you have no idea…
The wig got DRAGGEDDDD lmao
Anyway yeah I had fun and I would have loved to have seen his reaction if he’d watched the penultimate episode instead… I have a feeling he would have made some interesting assumptions about Cas there, especially during the ‘dean thinks Cas is at the door and sprints to open it’ scene
