When I ordered a meat skewer @flamegrillqueenstown I never imagined it’d come hanging on a tall stand! Thankfully they offered to take the stand away after I removed the meat. I ordered lamb and was surprised it came medium well to well done when lamb is meant to be served medium rare. Any #salad is hard to find in Central Otago, New Zealand in winter. Even in summer, meal sized salads are rare finds. When you do find them, the ratio of meat to lettuce is like 60% meat; whereas in the US you get 10% protein and 90% lettuce. Goes to show you which ingredients are cheaper where. Also hard to find outside the US is ranch dressing, but @lovechicken_nz makes their own from scratch! It tastes like fresh dill in a light buttermilk— pretty great. Even better over their organic fried chicken with greens and the also-elusive-in-winter tomatoes. Hits the spot! Only problem is I took this pic when I ordered it weeks ago and when I got it again today, it only had one piece of chicken. For $18 it really needs two pieces, but I didn’t check the pic at the time. Back at @margos_qt for #taco and #frozenMargarita happy hour! The Bao bun fried chicken taco (pic 1) is a delicious fusion dish with fried chicken so good they could open a fried chicken restaurant! The frozen margaritas (pic 2) were as perfectly tart and sweet as before. The pastor pork belly taco was not the wow factor it was last time, but still good. Also tried the queso and salsa trio. Queso came baked in a cast iron skillet with pepitas; was not as liquidy as queso in Texas but good flavors. Salsa trio flavors change, but we had ground pepita red, verde green, and pico de gallo which I think they called salsa fresca. I would not present pico as a salsa flavor; but it was all delicious. Finding proper US southern #friedChicken outside the US isn’t easy, but @lovechicken_nz in New Zealand has done it! It’s perfectly crispy on the outside and insanely juicy and tender on the inside because they use entirely organic @bostockbrothers chicken from New Zealand. I would have said this is the best #cheeseburger in the entire Queenstown region, if only the kitchen could pull it off consistently. The first and third times I ate this #burger, it was so juicy the first few bites ran down my hand. However, the second one was dry and lacking the special sauces that add unique flavor. With a soft brioche bun, lettuce, pickles, onion, and cheese, the only thing left to be desired is tomato, but finding one of those around here in winter is as likely as me finding a gold “picker” in the river behind this restaurant (not yet, but it’ll happen someday). Major props to the staff for being very proactive and eager to remake the burger that I casually mentioned wasn’t as amazing as I’d remembered it. Most Kiwi restaurants wouldn’t have asked or offered that.
