Slinger Francisco, The Mighty Sparrow, and Rawle Gibbons backstage before a performance of Gibbons’ play, Ten to One at Queen’s Hall in 1991. All my plans for a carefully set-up portrait of the two men went astray as Sparrow arrived just before the play was set to begin. With the audience in place, there was nowhere left to photograph the two men but against a plain gray wall. With no time to set up any lighting rig, I just held the strobe off-camera to my right and took a few quick pops with direct flash before Gibbons had to leave. My memory is faulty, but I remember both men being highly amused by both my discomfort, being totally flustered at losing every opportunity for a better photo, and the sheer absurdity of the situation, being photographed even as the great engine of a musical production moved into high gear. #archive #lyndersaydigital #trinidad #theatre #queenshall #play #sparrow #backstage #performance #author #trinidadandtobago #portrait #filmphotography #photography #tentoone #thelyndersayarchive #transparencyfilm (at Queen's Hall) https://www.instagram.com/p/CGbH1EbH5ae/?igshid=mp3pdxuyzldf
