I just caught up with the most recent episodes of Hazbin Hotel Season 2 (at time of writing, Hazbin Hotel Behind Closed Doors & A New Deal). And with the return of Rosie Levi came the fascinating lore drop that SHE’S the one who made The Deal for Alastor’s Soul (as well as the reveal that Alastor’s part deer because a hunter mistook him for a deer & apparently whoever decides the appearance of Sinners has a sick sense of humor). There was also some interesting hints about Alastor being asked by Rosie to stay away for his 7 year sabbatical, and the idea that the Exorcisms have only been going on for 7 years (which raises some questions about Vaggie & Lute, but we don’t have time to unpack that). Which confused me, since most fans assumed Lilith was the one who made The Deal with Alastor, and that led me to wondering if Rosie & Lilith are somehow working together.

And then this thought literally just hit me.

What if Rosie & Lilith are the same person?

Think about it:

We still haven’t heard Lilith speak or seen her eyes. What if she’s never spoken because she has the same voice actress as Rosie, and the casting would give away the twist? What if she always hides her eyes because they’re empty black voids like Rosie?

During Alastor’s backstory, we find out he knew his crimes would land him in Hell someday, so he decided to be proactive & performed an occult ritual to make a Deal with someone on The Other Side to guarantee he’d have a measure of power once he died. And the demon he contacted was Rosie. Kind of odd, given that she’s allegedly a human soul which, while still powerful by some measures, is still not on the same level as a Sin or a Goetia. But if Rosie was actually the Queen of Hell? THAT would make a lot more sense!

There’s a giant statue of the Morningstars outside of Rosie’s home in Cannibal Town. And from what we’ve seen in the Hellaverse, only the Morningstars themselves seem to keep any portraits or iconography of the royal family in their homes. Charlie has a few paintings in the Hotel, and Lucifer had a portrait in his private estate. But the Goetias, the Vs, the regular denizens of Hell - no one else seems to have any images of the royal family in their personal space. Maybe that’ll change now that the shows are officially allowed to have crossovers. Or maybe it’s a sign that ONLY the Morningstars themselves are allowed to have art of themselves, so Rosie having the statue right outside her door is a sign that she’s more than “an honest woman.”

From the one time we saw Rosie & Charlie interact, everyone noticed that Rosie seemed more maternal & supportive than Lilith. Offering romantic advice, encouraging her to rally the Cannibals, being proud of her success getting the Cannibals to “dance along & sing her song.” Perhaps this is because Rosie IS her mother, and while she can’t directly assist Charlie or tell her the truth, she still wants to see her baby girl succeed. And in hindsight, it’s curious that Lilith was known for getting Sinners to follow her command with her “beautiful song,” and Rosie praises Charlie for getting the Cannibals to sing HER song.

This is a stupid thing to notice, but Rosie & Lilith are flower-themed names. Just putting that out there.

In her first speaking moment, Rosie talks about how she WOULD’VE eaten her first husband “if he didn’t taste so bad.” FIRST husband? How many husbands has Rosie had? And why did her FIRST taste so bad? Because he was human? Perhaps, the FIRST human?

For a lady with a statue of THE Morningstars in her town square, Rosie apparently didn’t recognize the Princess of Hell when she was standing right in front of her, insisting that Alastor introduce them. Or perhaps Rosie was trying to sell the idea that she’s never met this young woman before.

Rosie’s one of the few characters we’ve met so far who’s just the SLIGHTEST bit taller than Charlie.

Did Rosie ever ask for something in exchange for her Cannibals? I think Charlie got the Cannibal Army for free. Which seems SUPER SUS for an Overlord who has Alastor the Radio Demon in her back pocket. Granted, Charlie had to rally the Cannibals herself. But again, ROSIE wasn’t paid for their sacrifices. No promise of free apartments at the Hotel, or a nicer town park. Almost like someone was testing her daughter to see if she has what it takes to rule Hell someday.

Just, rewatch these scenes with Rosie & Charlie and really listen to Rosie’s advice. Doesn’t it all sound sincere? Like maybe ROSIE has secrets she’s keeping from the people she loves?
