ok where's my thriving fanbase for Quatermass and the Pit (1958)?

How did we go from being souls who knew each other for so long to becoming two strangers with unfamiliar hearts?
Personally I feel the writing of Bernard Quatermass in “Quatermass and the Pit” is weaker than the writing in the other three.
No no I don’t feel like that right.
It’s not that it’s weaker but the Quatermass in it is to clear cut. He’s to heroic. He’s to correct. He’s to moral and doesn’t have the same amount of hubris as he does in the other three.
I don’t think it’s bad and it’s logical progression of his character from the first two, in Experiment he causes the whole threat in 2 whilst he resolves the problem he does so at massive cost and he several times makes it worse than I was leading several people to pointless deaths.
In IV Quatermass is older more paranoid and racks up a body count of over a million children. His paranoia, zealotry, and bitterness towards humanity in the 4th serial is clearly a result of the third serial so in his character arc the Pit works as this is a Quatermass who has realised his mistakes and wants no one to commit them again. Yet the fact is this makes Quatermass rather simpler as an individual. It’s more about Humanities hubris rather than Quatermass’s. Of course by the end Bernard will be well on the way to becoming the misanthrope and desperate man of the the final serial.
I just find myself missing the rather morally grey Quatermass of the other serials. It makes sense but the fact is he is less interesting than than he is in the others.
Whilst the actor who plays Quatermass is very good (better than the chap in 2 and miles better than the American in the first to Hammer movies) but he is a flatter character with most of his flaws filed off.

In the annals of action scientists, Quatermass really does have the worst luck. After all, the Doctor has the excuse of being an itinerant busybody whose mobile home is apparently set to home in on the nearest active apocalypse at all times, and it's literally Sherlock Holmes' job to get into scrapes and conundrums.
Meanwhile poor old Bernard is just trying to push the frontiers of human achievement yet seemingly can't go five months without crashing his nice shiny space programme into some new Cosmic Horror From Beyond.
'British Rocket Group has it's own problems' indeed.
