Yesterday I had a really good day! And I needed it!!
I had a dermatologist appointment in Moline IL which is in the Quad Cities (Moline, Rock Island, Davenport and Bettendorf). I really liked the doctor and everything went very well. He didn’t find any suspicious spot on my skin and I set up an appointment for June of next year.
David took the day off at work and went with me because he had bought a couple of tickets from the rotary to go see the Bandits which are the minor league baseball team in Davenport. It was guffy for me to drive 1.5 hours to go to moline, come back home and go back a couple of hours later to go see the game. He found a record store, he’s always looking for cds 🙄 yes, he has wayyyyy too many, then we went to Stuff, a consignment store, i had taken some of the things the old owners had left here in the house to sell. I had 49$ waiting for me. Too bad that I didn’t have the time to browse, not that I needed anything anyway. After that we went to TJ Maxx to return a piece of clothing I had purchased the day before in Peoria. It was cute but it didn’t fit just right. The we went to check out the mall. The mall is a half dying mall but it still has plenty of stores. I was surprised to see a Hooters near the mall, I thought all or most of the Hooters were out of business but I guess not. Took the car to get washed at Tommy’s Car Wash since we don’t have one near us and lastly we went to the game. We had our own section with the rotary with food and soft drinks and we had a good time. I ate too many things that I shouldn’t but not in excess, oh well, sometimes you have to have a cheat day.
All in all it was a great day!!

Young Adult, oil on cut plywood, 4 x 4 ft., is a painting Chicago artist Chantal Danyluk has in my new zine, LAMINATOR Vol. 1.
Danyluk’s current series Against Dreamland explores the folly of the American dream through surreal oil paintings. Her oversized figures crafted from plywood are detached from their surroundings, compelled to merge with our own realm. Each one represents a harsh social issue facing our generation and reveals the shattered aspirations, unattainable ideals, and elusive promises that leave the younger generation disillusioned. These humanoid representations undergo frying, combustion, and drowning, symbolizing the immense pressure imposed by societal burdens like the cost of living, climate change, rental prices, and the objectification of women. Mirroring our own realm, these works bring a touch of whimsy and humor to otherwise serious themes inviting viewers to contemplate how these issues might resonate with them.
Chantal will also be showing this piece in a two-person exhibition that opens June 28 at Quad City Arts’ Rock Island Gallery in Illinois. Congratulations, Chantal!
