North Manitou Shoal Light Station
This light sits in between North Manitou Island and Pyramid Point, on the Michigan mainland. Preceded by a light ship, this permanent light structure has been in existence since 1935. It had a three-person crew, but was automated in 1980; it was sold four years ago to a non-profit organization that intends to fully restore the station.
The station sits about half way across the six-mile strait; Pyramid Point and the two Manitou Islands are part of Sleeping Bear National Lakeshore.
