Zara straightened. “Why do you say that?” “Everything about you is unexpected.” “Please, I’m the same me I’ve always been.” “You’re definitely still you, but you’re different.” She swallowed. “Explain.” The air changed around them, sparked with electricity and a tension that felt all too familiar. “It could be the fact that we haven’t spent time together in years, but you’re . . .” He moistened his lower lip and let out a nervous laugh. “I don’t know. Maybe it’s my reaction to you that’s different.” “Your reaction?” With his gaze fixed on her lips, he murmured, “Or it could be your mouth?” “My mouth?” Her fingertips brushed against her lips. X leaned in and she sucked in a deep breath. Oh, God. His nose touched hers and she shivered. Was he going to. . . ? “I think it’s your mouth,” he whispered, his breath mingling with hers, pulling her to him, lulling her with some sort of X-spell. “Um, that’s . . .” She felt the meat in her taco fall to the plate on her lap. Jerking back, she jumped up, tipping the plate onto the floor. “Oh no!” She grabbed a stickful of napkins and dropped to her knees to clean up the mess. “Oh, shit.” “Zara.” His hand on hers stopped her frantic scrubbing. “It’s okay. I’ll call the janitor for this floor. I’m sure he’s still in the building.” She stopped her crazed movements and sat back on her legs. “I . . .” She dropped her head. “Great.” His chuckle made her stomach quiver. “You’re good.” He placed a call to the janitor service. A moment later, he hung up the phone and peered over at her. “They’re on the way.” “You know you’re wrong, right?” she told him. “I really wanted that taco.” He barked out a laugh and stood. Holding out his hand, he waited until she placed her palm in his; then he pulled her to her feet. “Let’s go get you another one. And have a drink.” “In public,” she added, grabbing her purse and stuffing her laptop into her bag. “Ready when you are.” #PureTalent #Book1 https://www.instagram.com/p/CCtQ1A0l11FCvkqOSBD_btIirDtmwvOydbNTcQ0/?igshid=1prspslgateau
