Happy Hour: Philadelphia

The worst thing about life after college is the rapid decline in your active social life. It can be hard to find the motivation to go out and meet new people after a long, hard workday. However, the best thing about life after college, besides a real paycheck, is happy hour! You can’t top cheap food, cheap drinks, and the ample opportunities to network with professionals from all walks of life, especially when you live in a big city like Philadelphia. A typical drink in Philadelphia outside of happy hour ranges from $10-$20, the people are usually very busy, and unless you plan to eat at a chain restaurant, you better pray for your wallet. So if you’re ever in the city of Brotherly Love, check out these five spots for fun, affordable food, and cheap drinks!

 1.      Mad Mex

Mad Mex is a popular chain restaurant/bar with locations in Pennsylvania and Ohio. Mad Mex in the University City section of Philadelphia is definitely one of the best places to visit for happy hour.

·         Happy Hour: Three different happy hour times Monday-Friday. 

2pm-4pm: Student Happy Hour that includes half-off margaritas and appetizers with valid Student I.D..

4:30-6:30pm: Happy Hour with half off appetizers and Margaritas. 

10pm-1am: Late Night Happy Hour with half off wings and $7.00 Big-Ass Margaritas.

·         Atmosphere: Always very busy, but staff and patrons are very friendly.

·         Winning Combo: Strawberry-Mango Margarita with Wild Buffalo Wings.

2.      Landmark Americana

The second most popular hangout for happy hour customers in Philadelphia is the Landmark on Drexel’s Campus or Saint Joseph’ Campus.

·         Happy hour: M-F from 4-7pm: Half off appetizers and various drink specials. Mondays: $2.00 Margaritas all day.

·         Atmosphere: Always filled with college students, and young professionals, trivia games, and upbeat music.

·         Winning Combo: Strawberry Margarita or Red Sangria, and the best Chicken Nachos ever!

3.      Chickie and Pete’s

A historical Philadelphia bar, Chickie and Pete’s, is a great spot for sports lovers, especially their south Philadelphia location.

·         Happy Hour: M-F 4pm-6pm: $2.00-$4.00 draft beers, and $5.00 wines, various appetizers and pizza specials, all you can eat crab legs every Wednesday.

·         Atmosphere: Family friendly, filled with sports enthusiasts.

·         Winning Combo: All you can eat Crab Legs go with anything.

4.      Warm Daddy’s

Warm Daddy’s is a great place to meet up for happy hour and enjoy some live entertainment.

·         Happy Hour: M-F 5pm-7pm: Each night has a different happy hour special, some even have complementary buffets.

·         Atmosphere: Very lively place with live entertainment, southern cuisine, and friendly staff.

·         Winning Combo: Skillet Mac and Cheese, Jerk Chicken Rolls, ‘BB Blues Cocktail.

5.      Cavanaugh’s Sports Bar

With various locations throughout the city, Cavanaugh’s is always close and exciting.

·         Happy Hour: M-F 5pm-7pm: $2.00-$4.00 beers, %25 off appetizers, and free buffet every Friday.

·         Atmosphere: Usual patrons are local students and professionals. Always exciting and a great place to catch up on games.
