If you’re in the Aromantic or Asexual community, or are an ally of it. Please also consider not misusing Psychopathy and Sociopathy as some horrible monster trait, or insult.
Being aro and ace, especially through history, and even up to now, has been seen as a mental or physical illness to be fixed. If you lack this specific thing, then you are seen as some horrible emotionless monster. Or that it’s so horribly sad you don’t experience something, and they hope you get to experience it one day. Which often really just means “get fixed” one day. As if your experience, or lack of, is some terrible void. Which it is not.
Being emotionless in any type of way does not inherently make you a monster. Lacking empathy does not suddenly make you worse, the same way not enjoying people romantically or sexually doesn’t either.
To clarify: I don’t think anybody should be using psychopath and sociopath as insults, or treat it as badly as it is treated in media. But I’m reaching out to the Aro & Ace community specifically because I think you could, to some extent, get it. Also, I have no doubt in my mind that they are IN the community already, and some of you have just not realized or thought about it yet. Psychopaths and Sociopaths, and all the other terms I have yet to know, are already standing beside you, fighting for the same right your are, supporting the community.
Tearing them down also tears down the community. Refusing their rights is refusing your own. Think about the words you use. Are you helping the community, or dissing it?

People with tourettes, how do tics work? And a few other questions
I want to learn more about tourettes because ive seen compilations of people with tourettes making their partners laugh or in general taking it so well and being around good company. I love it a lot, especially when they have a partner that treats it completely normal. It also gets me thinking about how similar tics are to stims, as lots of compilations i see look like stims someone like me would do impulsively. The questions are as follows:
What are your main tics, unless they change often? I know that like stims, they can change depending on many factors, but if you stick with any tics for a long time, what's the longest that youve kept the same tic? Or also, what are some of your favorites? I know they are impulsive, but still, do they at all soothe you or comfort you if you're overwhelmed? Some stims i will do are maybe moving my hands, making a sound with a small body movement, or randomly saying/repeating words.
Are tics and stims as similar as i think or are they surprisingly different? Both can be impulsive, but i think tics are less welcome, especially if they end up sounding accidentally offensive against ones wishes. I overall want to know any basic similarities or differences between tics and stims.
Do you know any people that are super 100% supportive of you and even love your tics as a unique quirk about yourself? I cant get over nice and silly interactions between partners with it. If anyone else has anyone close to them that is accepting and supports you through everything, it would just be nice to hear for good mental health these days. My partner stutters and i support him, and he is super supportive of my stims and other sometimes annoying stims or personality traits, so i like to see and hear about other wholesome partners too!
Im sure tourettes is just as much a spectrum as many other aspects of a person, but whether everyones opinions are the same or different, it would be very interesting and fascinating to see many different takes! It would also feel nice to learn more about other mental illnesses besides adhd, autism, depression, etc. I like to look into less talked about ones. Heck, what are other overlooked conditions that no one spreads awareness of or misunderstands? Like psychopaths always portrayed as evil even when its deep down just attention for yourself instead of others and can be harmless. Or bipolar individuals just suddenly being "crazy" or just outright unpredictable and lashing out to harm someone. You know, stuff like that. What are misunderstood, less discussed mental problems that need to be better understood by the public? Only if you want to answer ofc. There's no pressure to answer ANYTHING here or even correct me if im wrong somewhere. i want to LEARN!
ps sorry for inactivity, i have been much more active in other communities and sites and my recent medication has made it easier for me to do more productive things irl, leading me to focus less on posts here. Though my inbox is still open to requests if you are ok with it not being answered in a timely manner.
