The Father Of Psyche Consulting The Oracle Of Apollo, by Francois Gerard.
On some high mountain’s craggy summit place
The virgin, decked for deadly nuptial rites,
Nor hope a son-in-law of mortal birth
But a dire mischief, viperous and fierce,
Who flies through aether and with fire and sword
Tires and debilitates all things that are.
Terrific to the powers that reign on high.
Great Jupiter himself fears this winged pest
And streams and Stygian shades his power abhor.
Only you know your relationship with your god. Don’t second guess it.
It saddens me to see posts on here and on other sites about how having a causal relationship with your god is disrespectful and you shouldn’t give them nicknames. That just makes me so upset every time I see it.
Because one of the things I know for a fact is if a god felt disrespected by your behavior towards them, you’d know.
If xyz didn’t want you to treat them like a sibling, best friend, mentor, parent, (or even a lover. Not my place to judge.), you’d know. Just because you have that type of relationship with them doesn’t mean you don’t respect them or don’t work with and/or worship them.
They’re gods, yes. But they also love you and want to help you. You felt how they appeared to you, I bet you knew very quickly what type of relationship you’d have with them. What type of role in your life they would fill. Or maybe you didn’t and it happened a lot more slowly. All of that is okay. What’s also okay is if you have a very strict relationship with them, that’s also fine.
But my goodness don’t try to police or judge how gods are with other people.
99.9% of the time it’s the gods setting that type of dynamic in the first place so please be respectful to other dynamics.
You’re not better than other worshipers because you don’t joke around or call a god your bestie.
At last! Official altar shelf!
My room is at last, done (aside from a few things I want to add to my wall. But furniture wise its done). I finally put ALL the helpol stuff on one wall and have a dedicated shelf for altars. The top shelf is kind of a mishmash of "I found this altar peice for this deity so I'll put it on a shared shelf" (Artemis, Aphrodite and Dionysus are all there atm) and the one underneath is for Hypnos and Thanatos. Because Thanatos just kinda,,, moved in. It was just Hypnos for years, and then his beloved twin just kinda started leaking into the area. So I just accepted it and they're together now. I put them underneath so they have more shade, the darkness dwellers deserve it.
On the same wall I also have Eros and Psyche and Achilles and Patroclus.
Both I found at antique shops, all together it was only $30! I think adding a little floating shelf for a candle under them would be a nice addition. Anything I find a decently priced helpol related thing in an antique shop or something, I get it. The goal is for that whole wall to be FULL of the gods and heroes. Basically one giant altar.
If by some miracle I ever have my own house, the whole house will be full of the gods. Each room will have a few of them in there for sure.
Finished my eros and psyche art 🥺 turned out so cute. I’m going to work on animating the sparkles and her little butterflies in her hair

some things i devote to my deities
Lord zeus: surprisingly, just breathing. especially the sort where your used to the rhythm of your breathing so you inhale deeply with a strange enjoyment on how the air fills your lungs Lady persephone: my freedom of choice, the choice to do something productive or something creative that no one else thought of, especially in bitter memories that some people cant choose for themselves Lady artemis: growing up or leveling up and learning. just generally doing things i didnt know how to do before Lord dionysus: acting as myself without the need to mask around others, it doesnt matter if people think of me as a little crazy we all are in a sense why not let go and have fun? Lord ares: realizing you dislike something, that it makes you sadder or feeling worse than before and finding ways to get rid of it to be happier, sometimes we just go through the motions when we shouldnt Lady psyche: loving someone in a platonic way, loving them so much that you genuinely care for them and dont want them to leave your life. learning that indifference isnt the greatest way to live.
Lady Psyche
“Why do you rack you sad old age with protracted weeping? Or why do you weary your life's breath, which is dearer to me than to yourselves, with repeated lamentations? Why do you disfigure those features, which I adore, with ineffectual tears? Why do you grieve my eyes by torturing your own?”
-Apuleius, The Golden Ass
Psyche’s biggest strength is her curiosity.
This curiosity leads her to uncover Truth, and it helps her survive the trials she went through and pull through every obstacle she faces all the way to completion.
Psyche cries and feels suicidal through every impossible task she is assigned, but she never gives up. She could have enjoyed godly levels of wealth and material comforts for the rest of her mortal days, not fully knowing Love (like you see some women choose under patriarchy). At any point in her journey she could have turned around, went home, and lived a normal life disillusioned with and untouched further by the Divine; but she doesn’t do this. She would rather risk death than suffer that fate.
Psyche is not just a sweet princess, she is a lot more brave, clever and strong than most give her credit for and I love that she has this unmovable stubbornness about her to not accept bullshit and half-truths, and to also not accept what mortals deem “impossible.” Psyche is a goddess who sees things through by any means necessary, and can’t help but to do this because it’s just her nature.
