The one where I get to know you
This might be a sequel since I donât have a script or ideas to continue yet, but who knows?? This is a draft I found lost on my phone and Tumblr, and I kinda liked the way I used to think when younger. Let me know what you think anyways
Itâs not like I hated him.
We just donât get along. I met Harry - the guy I donât hate - a few months ago.Â
We were at a pool party of a friend we have in common. They thought we would like each other right away since we have âsimilar tastes " according to them. Alright.
We started to chat about nothing in the corner of the pool, and I felt a little bored, to be honest. He is a nice guy, donât get me wrong. But not for me. We havenât spoken since that. And well, Iâm still good this way, thank you.Â
But let me tell you what happened. The same friend who threw that party is now hosting a baby shower because guess what? Sheâs pregnant. Well, that was kinda obvious, I guess.Â
Iâm here talking to myself in the same spot we chatted the last time we saw each other, about a story that I rather forgot because I got nothing better to doâŠ
I look up, seeing a tall man holding two drinks.
"Oh, hey", I answered back.
"I donât know if you remember meâŠâ he said reluctantly, "Iâm HaâŠâ
"Harry," I said, interrupting him â, yes, I remember you"Â
He smiles, nodding at me, sitting by my side afterwards.
"Here, I brought you a beerâ, I murmur a silent thank you and drink my beverage.
He still sits there, moving his leg inside the water with his beer in his hand, looking from one side to another. And I stare at him.
Iâm about to say something when Kendra - my pregnant friend - walks from God knows where with her husband by her side, holding hands with a massive smile on their faces. They are in the middle of the yard with a massive box in front of them.
"Thank you so much for being here today", she started, âitâs a very special day for us, not only because itâs our babyâs showerâŠbut because we are about to find out our baby's gender.â Everyone starts to clap excitedly.
Even though this gender thing is super cliche and way too inappropriate, even for an unborn baby, itâs their day! Not mine. So I clap along, because either way,y Iâm also happy. And I donât need to be a brat about it. I can have a conversation with them in the near future about this whole thing, canât I?
"Letâs do this," said Alex, the husband.Â
The box was opened, and pink balloons were floating in the air. Classic.
Everyone started to clap and cheer, and so did I.
I get up and go hug them - trying not to soak them with my wet legs, and congratulate my friend. Then she started speaking again.Â
"Enjoying the situation, Alex and I want to request something from my friends over here. Can you come here, Harry?âÂ
Harry got up from the ground, also a little wet, and came to where we were.
"Well⊠Y/N, you know, weâve been friends for a while,â Said Kendra, âand youâve been with me through my ups and downs, you are really important to me"Â
"And Harry,â she said, facing him, âAlthough we have known you not so long, you became our best friend, our personal jokester and our precious baker"Â
"All this speech is for actually asking you both ifâŠâ We four stared at each other.  ââŠyou want to become our baby girlâs godparents," they said together.Â
Harry cheered, excited, hugging them both, screaming, " Yes, yes!!
I stayed frozen. Too shocked to say anything.Â
Meeting my failed date and being invited to become a grandparent to a child on the same day? Might be too much to handle.
Who am I trying to deny? Itâs too damn excited. ïżŒ
The three of them - after their hugging section - stared at me,e waiting for an answer.Â
"What do you say, Y/N??â Said Alex.Â
"Yesâ, I finally answered, âI will be her godmotherâ
Like I said, Harry and I donât get along.
Weâve been seeing each other lately on behalf of our goddaughter Nina - sheâs the cutest little thing,g I must say.
We had dinner at Kendraâs place the other night, with a delicious meal and a fantastic glass of wine. I might have had two or three glasses.
Nina is eight months old now, and I have to admit sheâs too smart for her age; she skipped the âcrawling processâ and went straight to walking. The result was Harry and me chasing her the whole night. Not that I mind, itâs nice to spend some time with him, but after five minutes, you get tired and want to get rid of him. At some point, Nina got tired of walking and decided to watch Peppa Pig while she was peacefully lying down in her crib.
The adults kept chatting about adult stuff. Harry was sitting in front of me, and every now and then I felt his glare on me, and when I stared back,k he pretended he wasnât looking. Nina was already asleep when we decided to leave, but I donât have a car, so add this to a credit card with no credit, and you will find a woman who canât order an Uber. So now, Harry is taking me home. Might be the excess of wine in my veins talking, but in this second,d I wasnât so bothered to be in this same space as him for the first time.
The traffic got us stuck in the middle of the avenue at 11pm. He had turned the radio on with music Iâve never heard, but I was tipsy, so I donât really know what I was listening to. Neither of us said a word since we got in the car. While he was facing the road, I could watch him better, even though it was dark; you could notice how sharp his jaw is. Or how his hair is getting curly, or-
ââAre you staring at me?ââ I face the road again without saying a word. ââSo...ââ Harry says trying to break the silence ââAre you free next Friday?ââ
ââAre you seriously asking me out? He looks at me, confusedÂ
ââIs that a problem?â He stares at the road. I look at him, surprised.
ââNot at all, itâs just...awkward,â I said,d âWe just started to speak again because of Ni n,a you know... It wasnât for that I bet you wouldnât even remember meâ.Â
He is the one who chuckles now. He started to drive again and decided that silence was the best option after all. Half an hour late,r he parks the car in front of my house. When Iâm almost leaving, he stops me, saying:
âYou know, even if it wasnât for Nina or Kendra or whatever, I would still try to talk to you. And I respect your decision, itâs okay if you donât want to hang outââ we both smile. I got out of the car, and he called me again ââBut if you change your mind...â I roll my eyes.
ââGood night, Styles,â he smiles, turning on the car and leaving.
Kenda asked me if I could spend the night with Nina since I wanted to spend some time together. I said yes, of course. So after work on a Friday night, Iâm at their place. They left around 7pm or so, and since then, Iâm playing the babysitter with the happiest baby in the world. Nina is a very - very - excited child. She never stops. Never.
Now itâs around 8pm, and Iâm already tired. The thing is, she loves climbing their stairs, from the bottom to the top, and once she gets where she wants to start over again, and again, and again. Remember, I said she learned how to walk very fast? Yeah, maybe she should have waited.
Iâm in the middle of the stairs with Nina, giggling when the doorbell rings. I take her with me with a pouty face, getting surprised when I answer the door
ââNina!â he says,s ignoring me. Nina straightaway leaves the comfort of my embrace so she could have his âHow are you doing, my love? Are you good?âÂ
âHarry?â I try again. He looks at me, âMay I help you?âÂ
He enters while I close the door. I follow him to the living room, where he puts Nina into her crib. He turns around and faces me with his hands inside his jacket.
ââAlex called me, told me to come over so I could help you outââ
ââWell,â I said, âI appreciate it,e but they didnât warn me of anythingâ Â
âIt was suddenâ, he said,d âAre we hungry?â
âWe already ate, but thanksâ
He shrugged and faced Nina again.
âWho missed the nestes grandfather in the word hmm?â Nina giggles. Cheater, âI heard you wanna play some more, yeah? Letâs go thenâ
She grabs her again and says sheâs taking her upstairs to the playroom. Now I âcan take some rest,â according to him. Yeah, okay. Suddenly, ly I donât feel so tired anymore. I clean the mess we made earlier and hear the giggles from upstairs. I climb the stairs carefully and move to Ninaâs room. Her door is almost closed, sed so I give a little peek inside the room and catch Nina playing with muppets, laughing with everything Harry - well, the mullet Harry was playing, a frog, I believe.
âWhy donât you come from behind the door and come play with us, Aunt Y/N?â said Harry, the fr,og with a strange but yeah, actually funny voice.
And so I did. At every terrible imitation of an animal, he did Nina giggle like it was the funniest thing in the world, as she understood everything we said. I was playing a very bad sheep, but she didnât mind at all. A few hours later, she fell asleep right when Alex and Kendra got home.
âWe donât know how to thank you guysâ, they said.
âTell me he is coming next time,â I thought, ht but I kept myself quietïżŒ.
So yeah, here we are again, like the last time. I did not have a drive,e so Harry, the saviour, offered to take me home, so I accepted. The silence is not as uncomfortable as before; most of the time, we talked about Nina and how special she is. From one second to another, we were at my place. Before I could get out of the car, he said
âRemember last time? I asked you out, and you rejected me like...Well, you rejected me,â he said in a playful tone.
I got out of the car and supported myself on the window.
âOh, well. Maybe if you ask me a second time, maybe I can acceptâ
âAre you free anytime?â
âYou know what? Who knows, maybe the third time you convince meâ
We both smiled. He left, and I watched him go.
He wasnât so bad after the wall.
