Real 'belonging' means you can be the most sincere and honest version of yourself around them, and feel a sense of mutual acceptance and respect.
However, if you feel frequently compelled to--
Self-censor.
Give much more than you receive, often with the accompanying feeling that receiving anything, whether material, emotional, or otherwise, requires a certain amount of self-flagellation to convince them you're truly grateful.
Convince yourself you want or believe things you really don't, or to hide that which you do, in order to avoid shunning, shaming, and mockery.
--that's not belonging. That's emotional slavery.
Relationships of all kinds take work and some compromise, but if you can't even safely be yourself, it's not one worth preserving, much less making any sort of sacrifices for, and certainly not any commitments to.

I just canât get into Sims 4 despite the two new packs. Maybe Iâll eventually try again but Iâm uninstalling it and sticking with Sims 3..MAYBE Sims 2 if the want comes back. Sorry guys.
Patience and Other Silly Things - a ShieldShock Fanfic set a few months after the Battle of New York, by @glynnisi  (what if Darcy was the one who wrote the PSAâs from Spiderman: Homecoming?)
Darcy skidded into Janeâs lab and shut the door behind her, back to it as though to prevent an invasion. Her eyes were wild and her cheeks afire.
âWhat are you doing here?â Janeâs tone was cool. Â âAnd why are you running in those heels? Â You almost fall every time you wear them.â
Breathless, Darcy held up a finger to beg for time as she managed, âdeath by embarrassment and possibly shield. Â Fleeing.â
Grumbling, Jane shook her head, âSHIELD will find you here, Darcy. Â Though youâve abandoned me for the glamorous world of Avengers PR, this is the first place theyâll look. Â In fact, I should call and tell them youâre here!â Â She frowned as she looked over Darcyâs professional-looking pencil skirt, fitted button-up blouse, and high heeled shoes.
âJaaaaane! Â I said âshieldâ, not âSHIELD.â Â The round and patriotic one, not jack-booted thugs! And, glamorous, my ass!â Darcy brushed an errant curl behind her ear and squealed when a knock sounded against the door. Â She turned around, searching in vain for a lock. Â Her look to Jane was pleading. Â She mouthed silently, âsisterhood!â
Jane crossed her arms and stuck out her tongue, but relented. Â âWhoâs there?â
âSteve Rogers. Â May I come in?â Â His tone was firm, but utterly polite.
Jane mouthed, âhe doesnât sound mad.â
Darcy shook her head and made incomprehensible gestures with her hands.
Put-upon but still loyal, Jane marched to the door and gently moved Darcy aside. She opened the door part way. Â âHow may I help you, Captain?â Â Janeâs expression was one of utter innocence.
Captain America, in full uniform, shifted nervously from one foot to the other as he held up an iPod. âMiss Lewis forgot this- in her haste to leave the video studio.â Â His lips twitched with repressed mirth. âAfter Tony finally revealed that the mirror was not one-way and that I could see her the entire time I was taping the school PSAâs, she hurried out.â
Darcy covered her eyes.
A slow grin filled Janeâs face. Â âOh! Thatâs so nice of you to return her iPod. Â Itâs one of her favorite things. Â She loves music.â Â Knowing Darcy as she did, it was all Jane could do to keep from bursting out laughing.
Laughter edged Captain Americaâs tone, too.  âI could tell.  Sheâs quite the dancer.  Between writing new things for me to say, sheâŚâ
Darcy jerked the door open, interrupting, âOkay. Â Iâm sorry. Iâm sorry I got carried away and had you do eighteen of those things, each more ridiculous than the one before. Iâm sorry I unbuttoned my blouse and shimmied half-naked while you talked about âpatienceâ. Â Iâm sorry I made faces and rude gestures during the one on âdetention.â Â Iâm sorry I got graphic during the one about âcondomsâ- the PSA that will never see the light of day, though it really ought to. Â Iâm sorry I pretended to make out with myself during the âabstinenceâ PSA- that should never see the light of day, but absolutely WILL. Â Iâm sorry!â
He nodded once. Â âApology accepted.â
âReally?â Darcyâs eyes went wider as she stilled from her nearly-manic rant.
His low chuckle rumbled through her as he shrugged. Â âI got the impression you were stuck with the assignment because youâre new in the department. Â I understand doing silly things to pass the time and stir your creativity.â Â He handed her the iPod. Â âI donât always like it when I have to follow orders, either.â He peeled off the cowl.
Darcy blinked hard as she looked up into his beautiful face. Â âYou look even nicer out of that thing.â Â She swallowed hard.
His lips twitched. Then he gasped, âoh! Â The cowl.â
With a head tilt and raised brows, Darcy giggled, âWhatâd you think I meant?â
He shook his head and looked away while rubbing the back of his neck. Â âNothinâ. Um-â
Holding up the iPod, Darcy offered, âthanks for this.â
He nodded. She held out a hand to shake. Â He peeled off his red gloves and shook her hand. Darcy lifted her chin as she continued to hold his hand, âDarcy Lewis, PR assistant and jr. copy writer. Â Nice to meet you, Cap.â
His smile was sweet, almost too handsome. Â âPlease, call me Steve. Â Steve Rogers, at your service, maâam.â
She released his hand, making mental notes about its size and strength. Â âNice to meet you, Steve.â
He took a breath and let it out slowly. Â âWould you like to grab a coffee, Darcy?â
She bit her lip. Â âOnly if I can buy to make up to you for making you say all those things. Â The parameters they gave me got under my skin. Â But, it wasnât fair to take it out on you.â
He nodded. Â âI couldâve let you know about the mirror.â
Darcy put her hands on her hips, âyeah! Â Why didnât you?â Â She raised a brow again as she caught him checking her out.
He ducked his head. Â âYou looked like were having fun- and you put on quite a show.â
She looked thoughtful. âWe should split the tab.â
Steveâs face fell. Â âLike âjust friends?ââ
Darcy moved closer and took his arm. Â âNah. More like two people who were both having fun at the expense of the other.â She looked him over. Â âYouâll want to change into jeans or something, though. THAT outfit would draw undue attention.â
Uncertainty flickered across his face. Â âJeans? I only have trousers.â
She nodded slowly as she looked up at him, amused and eager to learn more about him. Â âOkay. Â Maybe our second date can be modern clothes shopping.â
Steve grinned, âonly if youâll teach me how to dance on our third.â
Darcy fluttered her lashes, teasing, âDeal. I canât wait to see you shimmy.â
His expression turned serious. Â âIâm a slow learner. Â Youâll have to demonstrate a lot. But thatâs okay. Â I like looking at you, pretty girl.â
She shook her head, âcheeky! I like that in a man.â
They bumped shoulders, playfully flirtatious as they made their way down the hall.
I don't know who might need to hear this, but the idea that respect must be earned does not mean that you have to earn the right not to be treated with total contempt.
Being treated with neutral civility and dignity is not something you have to earn, and in many cases can even be afforded to people we don't necessarily like.
Anyone--even if they're in a position of authority--who decides it's appropriate to treat you with contempt simply because they don't know you, or because they disagree with decisions you made for yourself that fall strictly under matters of personal autonomy, is way the hell out of line.

I decided to do a thought experiment on coming up with bad mental health advice--that is, advice that appears to try to explain a problem on the surface but actually cuts much of its intended audience down or worse. I wanted to come up with something that strikes at the heart of what's wrong with so many of the hot takes floating around out there; something that sounds like whoever wrote it really believes the BS they're spinning, or at least like they really wanted someone who doesn't necessarily have the spoons to pick it apart to believe it.
Here's the full stop bullshit line I concocted--I repeat, this is intentional bullshit for educational purposes: "If you're survivor of extensive emotional trauma, you have to understand that you probably don't really have love languages. What you have is a twisted mass of self-defensive people pleasing efforts, which can actually be manipulative of others when you think about it, because what you're doing is for yourself. But healthy and genuine love is something you were probably prevented from learning how to feel or express."
Now that I've thoroughly offended myself, my real advice is this: If you come across something that reads like this, understand that it's crap, or worse, outright malicious. Look at everything the monster I created above does--it tries to deny the readers their own good will, tells them they're not capable of reading their own emotions correctly, tries to tell them how incapable of certain positive emotions and expressions they are, and low key guilt trips them into the idea that they're being manipulative. And perhaps most telling, it doesn't offer any solutions.
The best thing you can do with advice that reads like my made up thing is ignore it; maybe spend a few minutes being pissed at it for existing and deceiving an audience full of vulnerable people who've already had their heads messed with waaay more than their fair share.
I get enough drama at work where customers act like children, I really donât need it in the Sims community. I may just blacklist the drama tags for my own peace of mind. I been seeing it so much on my dashboard on my Simblr blog(s) no less.
I know itâs not good at all to rip off others work no matter what it is, nor anything else of the sort but I get so much drama at work from customers sometimes.
And threats on other people I see posted? What is wrong with everyone.
