Tsumami Kanzashi Challenge Day 17 - Plum Plum blossoms are often mentioned in Japanese poetry as a symbol of spring. The flowers are associated with the Japanese bush warbler and depicted together on one of the twelve suits of hanafuda (Japanese playing cards). Plum blossom is one of my favourites, if not favourite bloom in kanzashi traditional motifs. But making a plum blossom - just a plum blossom - was a bit... unsurprising. And while I love them, I've decided to try something a little different. Plum blossom is there, of course, but a fully-fledged plum is next to it. On the side note, this is more of a European plum, because Prunus mume, Japanese plum tree is related to both the plum and apricot trees and its' fruit is usually orange or yellow. Umeboshi (梅干), pickled and dried plum, are a Japanese speciality.
