Today, we celebrated triple achievements of AndrĆ”s Riedlmayer, bibliographer in Islamic Art & Architecture, director of the Documentation Center of the Aga Khan Program for Islamic Architecture at Harvardās Fine Arts Library. Recently, AndrĆ”s received the David Partington Award from the Middle East Librarians Association. This award is presented to members who have displayed a high standard of excellence and accomplishments in and contributions to the field of Middle East librarianship, librarianship in general, and the world of scholarship. Weāre so incredibly fortunate to have AndrĆ”s at Harvard Fine Arts Library. And this month, he also celebrated his 33 years of employment at Harvard. Lastly, today is his birthday! Many congratulations and a happy birthday to AndrĆ”s!
AndrĆ”sā research interests include Ottoman history, Islamic art and culture in the Balkans, and the protection of cultural heritage under national and international law. He prepared many expert reports on the destruction of cultural heritage in Bosnia and Kosovo, and testified as an expert witness in nine trials at the ICTY and before the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in the genocide case Bosnia and Herzegovina v. Serbia and Montenegro.

This is an appreciation post dedicated to the only man who owns my heart. I wish I could tell him in person how proud I am of him in achieving his academic degree despite all the setbacks that he have gone through throughout the whole journey. I remember how disappointed he was when he couldnāt achieve his target during A-Level & he had to bury his dream to study overseas. Despite that, he still managed to pursue his dream in local uni and graduated with flying colours. His last message got me all teary āI canāt get this without uā... Iām just so so proud of him. I did nothing yet he still thanked me. I just hope he knows that he deserves the success & it was his own hardworks all along that makes him who he is now. I hope he continues to prosper, grow and achieve more positive results in his life. I hope he knows that I will pray & support him in whatever he choose to do in his future life, always.
