I'm reaching out for #ByronBay 🐟🐋🐬🌊💙🌞🐚🐢🐙🐳 Recently I was made aware that there has been approval put forward to build a mega-suburb at West Byron, with potentially over 2000 homes planned to be built. 🏢This development has the potential to increase the town by 50%, it would overload infrastructure, overcrowd surfing spots, threaten the health of the beaches, and also threaten the Belongil estuary, and its inhabitant wildlife.🍂 🌞Byron Bay is a place I have spent a lot of time, made lifelong friends and memories, its natural beauty and alternative culture make this place a free feeling heaven for not only local residents but 1.4 million tourists worldwide. ⚓️West Byron is known for the prescence of acid sulfate soil. 😷The development of this new mega suburb, will result in the movement of toxic concentrations of aluminium, iron, sulphuric acid and heavy metals into Belongil Creek, the Estuary and Cape Byron Marine Park, and as you can imagine, have adversely HUGE effects on the flora and fauna of these areas, and damaging the beautiful beaches. 🐨A native resident that will be at the receiving end of the negatives, is the population of koalas , that have lived here for years, resulting In the loss of their habitat, becoming exposed to more traffic, being run over, dog attacks, and less food.
