A three judge panel [including a Trump appointed judge] have blocked Texas Republicans 2025 redistricting map on the grunds of racial discrimination.
Now, this is a preliminary block, and I'm sure Texas Republicans will appeal this to the Supreme Court. But if it holds this means Republicans will instead have to use an old map from 2021 [without the 5 extra Republican seats they gerrymandered in] for the 2026 midterms.
This comes as other Republican held states like Indiana, Kansas and Nebraska say they will not move forward with their redistricting plans.
As it stands right now and if the Texas map stays blocked, Democrats are holding 6 seats in redistricting race. [California +5, Utah +1].

The Justice Department is suing over California’s redistricting plan, which state voters overwhelmingly approved last week in an effort to redraw their congressional map in Democrats’ favor.
The DOJ is joining an existing case brought by California Republicans against Proposition 50, which seeks to give Democrats five additional seats in the U.S. House ahead of the 2026 midterms. Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom had touted the measure as necessary to counter Texas’ gerrymandering over the summer at President Donald Trump’s request.
