Helena was retconned into a Black woman (still Italian) at some point iirc and it stuck for a while, last time I was up to date with dc comics she was Black. I remember a wole controversy around the birds of prey movie because they casted a white woman to play her. I haven't read dc in a while but it wouldn't surprise me if they started making her white again in the comics after the movie. Or it could be completely unrelated regular comic book racism
whaaat i have not heard of this at all. i just know a lot of white tan italians with curly hair so i thought they were taking her design more in that direction, didnt realize she was ever specifically intended to be Black in particular

ok i have kind of mixed feelings on this. i REALLY loved her design and casting i felt she looked GREAT in every scene she was in. i also love how they utilized her powers -- "shapeshifting" obviously (looked great + love how she was not contained to a more "human form" with stuff added on but could fully manipulate her body mass) but also her connecting with technology. i can see them building up to introduce the carrier i feel. she comes across as a bit sharper/meaner than i see angie, but i think thats more a result of her being in a Superman movie so she seems "sharper" by comparison
my main issue is with the explanation for her powers and the small moment of motivation we get. because her roll in the film is as a luthor goon her own agency is kind of downplayed. luthor gave her the nanites rather than her doing it on her own (though this easily smth that could be retconned/more explained in a more angie centric film which i feel may happen -- obviously lex is gonna be a guy who takes the credit where he can). she also a moment of saying she "hates metahumans" and that that is why she was willing to like. get the nanites and remove her humanity. which is a bit of ??? move esp for her that really doesnt work from me. she has a moment near the end where superman tries to get her to leave luthorcorp and they get interrupted but im kind of glad we didnt get see if it wouldve worked or not because while i think its not a team angie works well in, she wouldnt be the type to be swayed by clarks "do the right thing!" type speech. she has more personal/believable reasons to leave by the end i think & i can see how her experiences under lex would lead her to a team like the authority...
overall i think its like. it doesnt really feel like angie But i could see how we could Get angie out of this character if we got a movie that focused on her more & where we could see her actually interact with people she likes. im still dreading the authority movie but i am glad that angies movie debut was in a movie that was mostly good where she looked awesome and got to do cool things. i feel like its all FIXABLE which is maybe delusional of me but the movie really was not about her she mostly just got to look cool
