Man, I've been putting these factoids off for a while because the history within them is massive and I could talk forever but someone made a post about stones so idk if this helps anyone so -
My long running thought about ST is underneath all the sci fi there's a throughline about cryptologic/SIGINT history. Normally I would dismiss this but there's parts of ST where it hits beat for beat just like historiographs Ive read.
so today I was thinking about the stone and the connotation that Henry found it in a cave with the Soviet scientist. I can't find a solid date but the google machine thinks 1959
There was an NSA [maybe cia] and Naval Intelligence op called Holystone [which is a ref to cleaning deck of a ship with a soft sand stone] This started around 1959. There's various iterations and names and projects within projects.
Op Ivy Bells was about tapping soviet cables under water. Around the same time Project Azorian happened. The world was told about Howard Hughes wanting to mine for nodules on the sea bed and thus the greatest heist and psychological warfare campaign took place.
Azorian happened so the US could get our hands on the code books within the sunken submarine K 129. A lot of what happened in the cold war provided cover for what was really going on. a fun cable tapping mission over here? Don't look this way were actually doing something else. Saturation diving was borne from Naval Intelligence and the CIA.
I wish the CIA [and nsa] was more open with its history because it truly is or was one of the best marketing agencies in the world and the stories contained within should be told. Will they? i am not sure. But like lucas says there's no coincidences and this is show is one hell of a polysemantic device.
1985 was called the year of the spy. It was a mess I don't even know where to start. a mega fuck ton of back stabbing and cat ahd mouse. I wonder, oh I do if tales from '85 is a trojan horse of sorts. I believe Alexei could be a stand in for Oleg Gordievsky as well.
It's also fascinating how the audience and our characters are being psyop'd by Murray and others [or maybe it's all murray lolol]

so what am i saying? no clue but as far as psyops go ST + learning about conformity gate is really helping folks take in the information that is being presented to them and drawing some really great conclusions and parallels
