Cause honestly? Every time that girl fucked up she had everyone in her corner comforting her, telling her they’d hope we’d work things out. reassuring her she didn’t mess things up for good. I had one person in my corner, same guy who’s always been there, he’s all I need, but it still sucks. You’re still a friend, yeah, but a line was drawn and it’s never really gonna be the same for me.

     Amelia didn’t remember much on how she got there in the first place, her hands felt around finding what felt like sheets, pillow and a warm body next to her. The last memory she had was staring at the little calendar on her phone, the one that held no importance to anyone else but her. It was one of those milestones, ones that she thought about a lot during her childhood. Staying in one place for 6 months was baffling, making it to a full year was almost unheard of but now she wasn’t that kid that lived out of boxes, she was an adult and she was running for her own demons once again. The small light that peered through the window shined enough for her to find her clothes and her phone, almost tripping a couple times when her legs could barely hold up her own weight. The lines she didn’t get to finish were on the small mirror beside the nightstand and the rolled up dollar bill with what looked to be her bank card tucked away right next to it. She didn’t dare to turn on the light, it would just show her reflection in the mirror and that wasn’t something she was ready to see. Her hands reached up to try to wipe the clamminess off her face only to find a small bit of dried blood on her upper lip, but she shook her hands quickly as if they were on fire. 

I love that you are by far the most honorable person I know. You go to great lengths to make sure everyone else is taken care of before yourself. You give so much of yourself whether it’s to your students, to your parents, to Colin, and to Ken and I. You are the person people write stories about and challenge themselves to be better to even get to the same level as you.

I love that you are obsessed with everything I am. From hearing the Hamilton soundtrack on a constant loop with me to crying during the Farewell Adress and handing me tissues. I’ve known it from the day I sent you a random text saying “can we talk?” and your reply was “ If you’re looking to find hot single Christians in your area, you’ve got the wrong number, lady,” that you were my soulmate.

text: I want to go back to that airport. I want to not say goodbye and tell you that it doesn’t matter what is coming our way and that we are staying together. That there is nothing that could stop me from being with you until you decided you didn’t want me in that way. I want to tell you that I love you. That I will always love you and that nothing is going to stop me from loving you fully. I’d tell you that I am going to be here for every single step. That you can push me away or you can lean on my fully, I’m going to be with you. If I had just said that maybe we wouldn’t be going through this. Maybe we’d already have rings on our fingers and a house that we can add on a whole place for your parents. A place to raise those boys that I would promise to love just as much as you do. Just as much as I would love any kid that we would be so lucky to adopt together. We could have had it all without the pain if I had just refused to give up.
