may - the owl
beast arrives
this will be the postcard sized print sent this may for my memberships. thanks to the tiny press i recently got (:3c) i could successfully print them in 640gr cotton paper. they'll also be dated and numbered. it's a vip egyptian owl cat, you see
as i said i'd send them the 25th, you can join until the 22nd of may to get this one; that way i have time to print and dry any extras i might need. after that you'll get next month's print
kofi / patreon <- memberships (due to patreon fuckery only the kofi one is available atm. sigh)
experimenting with 2 layer printing this time. what we have learned?
i need a better way to align the layers when printing. i need to build a jig...
i need to find a more exact way to define where i need to carve the color layer, based on the upper ones. i have some ideas
water based ink doesn't like layering that much so i should minimize overlap areas like the lower half of the pyukumuku
i don't have magenta in my waterbased ink stock so i had to approximate
dunno why the right one came out so much more blue in the picture. the left one is more true to life
now that i got permission i can share what i was carving the first half of march
it was a commission to design and print a bigger, fancier version of a family emblem from a uh, very small and blurry photo.
the original was, legend goes, made of silver, but then, who knows?
now we finally found a proper size frame and it's ready for hanging :)
and some images of the carving itself. the green was me painting every area i finished with acrylic pen as i went to check if i had missed something

made a third one to better use the paper space. i'll cut them once they dry
still trying to find a way to reliably print on thick cotton paper (right) by hand, but at least my business card tests are drying
don't have a press, so for now my humble setup is the ever-reliable floor
relatedly, i finally got around to printing this puzzle print on fabric, but then i realized i have to put a white layer first as sizing so the gray paint of the robes doesn't spread everywhere, but since white is opaque i am having to paint it from behind
bit annoying but it's good experimentation
putting my big guy in a normal place that definitely won't scare me later
