Princeton University has both a Jadwin Hall and a Jadwin Gymnasium. Here, we see workers constructing Jadwin Hall in 1967. But who were the Jadwins?
On February 20, 1965, Princeton University president Robert Goheen announced three gifts to the institution totaling $33 million, including $27 million from Ethel Jadwin, the mother of L. Stockton Jadwin, Class of 1928. Her son died in a car accident in New York less than a year after he graduated, and she had been a widow for nearly 30 years following her husband’s death in 1936. Mrs. Jadwin’s will has left a significant fortune to Princeton. It was reportedly the largest gift ever made to the University by a single individual. Adjusted for inflation, today, her $27 million gift would be about $280 million.

Tiger Tuesday: "The Tiger Team" was written by Harold Flammer, Class of 1911, in 1910. It didn't become one of the most popular of the Princeton fight songs, but the Glee Club performed it for a few years afterward.
