On The Files...
Said I wouldn’t comment on this, but here I am.
I did get around to reading the investigation files several times over and am of the same opinion I had before reading them :
1. Public personas of celebs are created so that they can keep themselves to themselves. As close as they feel, they are strangers we don't know.
2. Artists expose a lot of themselves through their work. Their values, things they aspire to be but may not always be...but they still only show what they want you to know
3. As much as they give and share, they are entitled to have their own personal lives and struggles. They don't belong to us. They are not public property to be picked over and analyzed. (To me).
4. So again it's information. Like every book is information. Like anything an artist does is information. You can analyze it all day, but that's just speculation based on whatever colors your perspective, not their actual intent.
Sit. Stew. Stress. Or Note. Apply a wider perspective. Apply the lessons for your own life :
Pay attention to your loved ones past what they say.
Raise your kids to feel safe enough to ask for help when they need it.
Encourage friends that they are more than what they provide for others.
Don't hold people up as gods to where they feel like they can't be seen as human.
Recognize people have agency over their own lives & respect their priorities. Their life is their journey to walk. Even if you see them walking a dark path, it's still their choice & there's not much you can do besides be there for them until THEY decide they're ready to change.
That last one is the hardest to do, you can't make someone do something they're not ready to do. You can't make someone face something they're not ready to face. But you can tell them you love them, you're worried, and offer alternatives for what you perceive their situation to be. What they do with that information is still up to them though...it's still their choice to take heed or discard.
Absolutely gutted that someone who gave us so much sacrificed so much of himself in the process. We didn't deserve it. He didn't have to...but he chose to.
We can choose to honor that sacrifice by loving with compassion and empathy, supporting real music by real musicians with our dollars so they can continue creating amazing art, cheering for those who are true to who they know themselves to be when that self is unrecognizable to us, and digging deep within ourselves to acknowledge all parts of us so it doesn't manifest as judgement of others.
We love you Prince, and thank you. For everything.
Seeing @TroyGua's #LPPSaturday post today reminded me of the custom bicycle @peacockgroove cre8ted in honor of #Prince last year and just how much P loved 2 ride his bike! He was known 2 ride his bike out of arenas after the show & late night/early morning rides after #PPAD parties at @officialpaisleypark! He rode his bike until his last days, even photographed riding the day after his incident on the plane coming home from ATL, and that night/early morning, he made his final public appearance at his final #PPAD party. 🙏🏽☮💜♊😎 #WeStillMissUPrince #Prince2me #NothingCompares2U #WhatPrinceTaughtMe
