Background History: Gregor Mogens
Gregor Mogens, the proud leader of Yggdrasil's Northern Navel unit. Gregor is a loveable, goofy old man that enjoys telling old war stories to anyone he may meet in the bar as he drinks every single one of them under the table. Now this cheery old man may seem like he has no worries but in reality his big smile hides numerous deep scars.
Gregor had just been promoted to second-in-command of the Northern unit after numerous successful missions against Cytron. That night they celebrated Gregor's new rank and his son Kendrew being accepted into Yggdrasil's 110th aerial unit; the night was filled laughs as Kylee taught Minna new dance moves and Gregor tested how well his boy could hold his liquor. A night Gregor would never forget. The next day Gregor followed Kendrew out in Groot as he saw his boy out on his first recon mission. However, his trip back was interrupted by a sudden attack by new style aquatic mechs from Cytron; the ambushers were easily dealt with in Groot's home terrain. This attack was only the beginning of what would become Gregor's hell on Earth.
Kylee was taking in the laundry with Minna's help, as they were heading back inside the sun was suddenly blocked even though not a single cloud was in the sky. She looked up as the black figures transformed into mechs and began landing all over the city; without hesitation they began firing on the town, one building after another fell to ruin as they marched across the city. Kylee quickly grabbed up Minna and ran to get as far from town as she could but more mechs began to drop near the bridge forcing them back towards the chaos in town. The only thought in her mind was her daughter's safety; the streets were flooded with people trying to escape the attack. "Don't worry baby, we're almost to the shelter!" Minna's crying and Kylee's words were drowned out by the sudden mortars that had hit the buildings near the crowded street and caused the two large buildings to come crashing down.
Kylee was almost knocked off her feet by the panicking crowds but held tight to Minna as she struggled to stay on her feet. The buildings were almost on them and Kylee knew they both couldn't make it. "Minna, Mommy loves you very much and I always will!" She kissed her forehead and then with all her strength, she threw Minna out of the way just as the buildings crashed onto the street full of people; Minna then crawled back to her feet and gripped her arm as blood ran from the cuts on it. "M-Mommy...? MOMMY!!!!" Minna ran over to the rubble and began pulling at the rocks but she never found the first sign of anyone under the rubble. As Minna sat crying in the streets the Mechs that had attacked were struck by numerous cannon rounds followed by a familiar cry from Groot. "Minna!! Lass I'm so glad yer alright!" Gregor ran up and scooped up Minna tightly in his arms. "D-Daddy!!" Minna began sobbing uncontrollably as she buried herself in his chest. "Its alright baby, the troops are here. Now lets see if we can find yer mother in the shelter, eh?" He smiled down to her before her grip tightened on his coat. "B-But...*sob* M-Mo-*sob*Mommy got *hic*hit by the building!!" Minna clung tighter to her father's coat as her crying grew heavier.
The world seemed to melt away and everything became cold and lifeless as the words echoed through his mind for what felt like forever. "No...No! That can't be true!" Gregor's eyes fell heavily on the massive pile of rubble in front of them as his heart seemed to stop beating. "Kylee, please...this can't be real. You can't be gone!" Tears began to flow down his face and drip down on his beard as he picked up his distraught daughter and carried her into the shelter. Minna had finally calmed down enough to sleep, but Gregor left the shelter and began digging through the rubble if only to fool himself that Kylee was still alive; the truth was he wasn't going to leave his beloved angel in that rock grave. She deserved better than this.
Day had finally broke; Gregor stood atop the hill outside of the city that over looked the never ending sea. "Kylee, me love. I'm sorry I couldn't protect you. I'm sorry I couldn't protect the family we worked so hard to build." Gregor then hung a set of dog tags on the cross with the name "Kendrew Mogens" stamped on them. "Our baby boy was killed in an ambush, I shouldn't have let him go. I really am just a useless old drunk." He sat in front of the grave and looked out over the ocean as Groot swam a ways out, mourning in his own way. "I know you loved this spot so the last thing I could do was let you rest here, me love."
Minna had wandered out of the shelter and eventually found her father sitting on the hill next to a cross. "Daddy? Are you ok?" The little girl walked up and sat next to him as her eyes examined the grave. "Everyone in the shelter says the 110th was wiped out.." She pulled her knees in and hugged them tight. "Does that mean Kenny will never come back?" Gregor pulled the bandana off his head and scratched his head. "I'm afraid so Minna. I made a horrible mistake which cost us yer Mother and yer brother. I'm so sorry lass, I should've protected everyone! I should be the one buried there not her.." Minna squeezed his arm tightly. "Please don't say that! I don't want to lose you too! I don't want to lose anyone again..." Gregor wrapped his bandana back around his head and then stood up with Minna. "I'm sorry baby, I'm just talking out of grief. This pointless war has taken to much already, but we're going to keep pushing forward for all of us! Its going to be hard but maybe we can live enough for Kylee and Kendrew! Minna smiled through her tears and nodded. "Yeah! They would be super mad at us if we gave up!" He put Minna on his shoulders and began back to town.
Time heals all wounds but some never stop hurting. Following the attack the Northern Navel was moved to the capital where Gregor and Minna would get a chance at rebuilding their lives. A few months after the end of the first war Gregor was able to get Kylee and Kendrew a proper headstone with the words "Death leaves heartache noe one can heal, Love leaves a memory no one can steal." engraved on it; they both make a habit of visiting the grave as much as they can.
