#pride ring

Hey all!

As I'm sure anyone who follows me knows, I have a lore guide on AO3- titled Did YOU Know This Hellaverse Lore?- detailing various worldbuilding details I've noticed in Helluva Boss and Hazbin Hotel. However! I have decided to share some of what I've learned about the each Ring of Hell here on Tumblr, so I can add picture references. (I technically can do that as well on AO3, it's just easier here.) Some posts will have more than others, and I won't cover everything I've found (if you want to see that, see my lore guide) but I hope everyone finds this informative!

Let's get started!

The Pride Ring is the topmost ring of Hell, and is ruled by Lucifer Morningstar, King Sin of Pride and King of Hell, and his Queen, Lilith Morningstar.

Hazbin Hotel takes place largely in Pentagram City, also known as The Pentagram. Pentagram City is described as the very seedy combination of New York City and Las Vegas.

(Given Pentagram City is surrounded on all sides by jagged rocks and the city appears sunken into the ground, I believe it resides inside a crater. And since that crater is directly below Heaven, I believe it is the crater Lucifer and Lilith made when they were cast down into Hell and hit the ground. They later used that empty space to build the city in.)

Pentagram City is divided into various areas, but there are six major Districts of note:

The Entertainment District (ruled by the Vees)

The Industrial District (ruled by Carmilla Carmine)

The Doomsday District (home to Prick and Hatchet)

Cannibal Town (ruled by Rosie)

Uptown (home to the Hazbin Hotel)

Downtown (home to the Heaven Embassy)

However, while Pentagram City is the largest city in the Pride Ring, it's not the only city. Helluva Boss takes place in Imp City, being located in Pride's "Second Circle." This leads me to believe the Pride Ring has "Nine Circles" that contain cities (going off a comment by Katie Killjoy in the pilot).

Imp City was founded in 1981 (however, this was in the pilot so it may no longer be canon). Imp City also has designated Exorcist Free Zones.

Hell's Courthouse is located in the Pride Ring, and- according to some merch- the Ring also has location called The Royal Circle, though it is unknown what that is exactly. (I theorize it is where you can find the homes of the demon royalty of Pride, such as the Morningstar Palace, or homes of the Ars Goetia.)

The Pride Ring has vast cities, but the landscape outside them is barren with jagged mountains and cliffs of red and maroon rock- though there are flat areas that have the occasional tiny patch of dark grass.

There are also some areas, such as where Martha lives, that have forests made up of scraggly, leafless trees with black bark and red eyes along the trunks, and grey bushes that also have red eyes. (Whether these plants normally have eyes or the eyes are a result of the Exterminations is unknown.)

As you can see in all of the above pictures, the Pride Ring does appear to have a day/night cycle despite not having a sun (none of the rings seem to- the song “Easy” even notes that Hell does not receive sunlight, and Sam Miller had to remind Vivziepop at one point the Wrath Ring has no sun). The sky is red during the “day” and darkens to reddish-purple at “night,” with red and white stars.

There is a giant glowing image of a pentagram floating in the sky above Pentagram City but doesn’t seem to be visible anywhere else in the Pride Ring. There is also a dark, stationary moon with another pentagram on it that is always visible in the sky. And, of course, Heaven is also always visible in Pride’s sky.

Pride also doesn’t have any large bodies of water, and Valentino at one point confirms in a text to Angel Dust that Pride has no islands.

Pride experiences both acid rain and "scream rain."

Acid rain is implied to be literal acid rain given Zestial notes he likes the sound of screams when it happens.

Scream rain appears to be like normal rain, but whenever there's lightning it creates the sound of screams. (I theorize scream rain is another result of Exterminations. Many characters seem surprised by scream rain, even noting rain has no business screaming. I think scream rain only started 7-8 years ago due to the essences of dead Sinners interacting with Hell's weather. So when the lightning screams, it's literally the exterminated Sinners' screams being heard.)

Many objects, walls, and other surfaces throughout Pride have red eyes on them. These eyes belong to Sinners who have died in the Exterminations. When killed with angelic steel, a Sinner's dark essence merges with nearby objects and infrastructure, creating the eyes. They are forever doomed to become part of Hell itself, never to again regenerate.

In flashbacks to before the Exterminations, we see that the eyes are distinctly missing from the landscape. In Helluva Boss we even see that the eyes have spread to other rings, such as the Lust Ring.

Sinners are confined to the Pride Ring and cannot traverse to the other six rings. If they try to, a barrier prevents them from leaving.

Hellborn demons, however, can travel between rings through a Hell Elevator (that I'm affectionately calling the Hellevator), which are enormous elevators that go up and down between rings. They can be accessed through (what I’m calling) Hellevator Stations.

There seem to be different kinds of elevator cars. Some are large, spacious, and luxurious with ample seating, while others are small and cramped with vertical poles and limited seating like subway cars. (The former is likely more expensive, while the latter is the common, affordable option.)

Given the use of apples, eyes, and white and gold in the vaguely angelic decor of the Imp City station, station concourse, luxury Hellevator, and waiting areas, I believe Lucifer designed and built the entire Hellevator system/stations.

However, the Hellevator isn’t the only way between rings. There is also a locomotive train system and a bus system that can travel between rings.

It is also possible to find natural passages between rings, such as the caverns and mine shafts connecting the Wrath and Pride Rings.

You look at the tick glass Front of the Sharky´s Tank and try to explain to them the different Pictures on your Toddler Tablet. It Results in Vox having almost a System Error, Valentino laughing in his Drink and Velvette getting a free Goodie for her Social Media Post.

With a concentrated expression on your face, you hold the Toddler Tablet up to you. So your Daddah's Vox's Sharkies can see exactly what you're showing them.

"Sharkys look! Daddah, Val and Vel! Family!" you say with a high-pitched, happy giggle, watching as Vox's two sharks swim a little closer to the thick glass pane.

On the tablet, you could see a selfie the Vee's had taken a while ago. Velvette had saved it for one of her social media stories.

You scroll to the next picture, and it's a photo of you and Peppermint—Vox's personal assistant.

"Minty!" - you say, showing the photo to the Sharkys again. Whether they're interested or not.

Next photo. Your little hand routinely swipes across the tablet's screen. Of course, you're fully an iPad—or VoxTek-Pad kid. You've seen your Daddah, Uncle Val, or Aunt Vel scrolling through their smartphones often enough, and your toddler tablet is one of the toys you really like.

"Melissa!" - you call out the name of one of the models who belong to Velvette. Sometimes she even babysits you when Velvette is on babysitting duty and you're in her fashion department.

When Daddah, Vel, and Val also enter the room and talk about some adult matter, you show the Sharkies more photos.

A selfie of you with Angel Dust (yes, sometimes Valentino forces his top actor to babysit when Valentino himself doesn't feel like it).

Then there was a photo of you in the pool with a toy shark in your hand and large armbands with the Vee's logo on them.

Another photo shows you with a small bucket of finger paint… oh, finger paint!

You can use this to make the large glass pane of the shark tank much prettier, and luckily you brought the green and blue colors into the room. They were under the table where the adults were sitting… by Valentino's chair.

"Sharkies, shhh!" - you whisper, crawling over to the chair where Valentino is sitting and grabbing the two little finger paint cups.

"We have a problem… Alastor is approaching Little Princess Morningstar. We have to make sure no deal ever gets made between them!"

"And how exactly are we supposed to stop him?"

"Put something in his drink… or him. That's how I keep those bitches under control."

You pay no attention to your family's words and nasty insults because you have a mission… to decorate the glass with some pretty paintings.

And before anyone could stop you, you finger-paint a few beautiful, colorful lines on the glass… something that seems to irritate the sharks, because they start swimming in the water a little more alarmed… almost as if they were trying to tell Vox… the baby shark isn't doing something good.

"Or someone from inside isn't a bad idea…huh? Oh my God, who gave her finger paint? Baby girl!"

Vox put down the glass with the whiskey and ice cubes, but didn't get a chance to take a sip because he'd noticed the sharks' behavior and just happened to look in your direction.

"Finger paint, Daddah!" - you exclaim happily, painting another wild green line across an empty space on the thick glass.

"I see. Stop it, please, Daddah doesn't a fan ....of this sort of…renovation work."

"No!" - you reply, generously reaching into both finger paint buckets once more. One of them falls to the side, spilling the small amount of paint onto the carpet.

"Baby, Daddah isn't making jokes. No more finger paint on the glass of the Sharks Aquarium. Stop!"

You hear the warning tone. Sometimes Daddah talks to Uncle Val like that.

But it's way too much fun. You just giggle and slap both hands against the window once….

Vox pushes his chair back, and you see it as a fun game…trying to run away from him…spreading more finger paint on the floor.

Vox tries to catch up you…picks you up before he realizes how stupid this is…you giggle once.

Moments later, Vox's right face has a few colorful splashes of paint.

"That's fucking hilarious! You look good, Voxxy!"

"A free goodie for my social media? Look at me, you two artists!"

While Velvette and Valentino were amused by this scene, Vox was very close to getting a system error.

And you?

You give him a big toddler hug, and now his suit has become a little more colorful with the finger paint.

By more than just a few fingertips.

HC: Overlord Women as Toddler Parents and how they show their Affection

Zeezi

-> As the Owner of the Klub Kaiju Zeezi is a total Party Animal, in a good Mood, love beign the Centre of the Party, a good Host and having a good Time. Always speaking up her opinion unfiltered and popular amongst other Monster-like-Deamons, Zeezi is bringing her little Toddler Girl with her to Club to teach her young useful basics. As a lack of awareness that Zeezi sometimes shows, the Judgement of letting a nearly 3 year old Dinosaur Demon play with alcohol bottles on the Edge of the Bar like it simply were bowlings pins or Plush Toys. Zeezi even joked to her Club Employees her Daugther would learn to make a Cocktail Drink sooner that getting potty trained. While beign the care free fun Mother, there is one favorite Way of Zeezi showing her Affection to her Offspring.

-> Showing off insane Dance Moves and going to one of the very few Toddler Friendly Places in Hell, that have an Indoor Playground to giving her little Girl the Adventure Running around time of her life. Adrenalin, running around….eating unhealthy Food and Slush Ice, Sugar Rush incoming and making her Daughter jump a bit higher on the Trampolines while catching that high laughter and having so much Adventure based Fun. Almost as exciting as enjoying a good Party!

Carmilla

-> She is cold and strict towards all of her Daughters in Public. No matter if its her oldest Girls Clara and Odette, or her youngest Daughter right in the middle of the terrible twos! But all Carmilla wants is to keep her Girls safe! She knew the Danger the Extermination brings and the killing Angels. Strict and clear structures is her Parenting Style. But the Founder of Carmine Industries has a soft Side. A soft spot for the only weak spot in Hell. The Reason Carmilla does everything in her Power to choose the winning side and keep everyone safe. Due to her young age the little Girl is not able to help in weapon production yet, but that doesn’t stop her from following her Máma everywhere because for the Toddler, Carmilla is her whole world (Mámas Girl!) and Tears are falling whenever Carmilla has to leave the Mansion. (Big Sister to the Rescue or a certain Spider Overlord to give all the Hugs and Cuddles until Carmilla returns!) Because of that the Overlord loves to show affection to her youngest one.

-> Reading, coloring, playing hide and seek in the Mansion or letting Carmilla do her Hair and put a pretty bow or hair clip in it? Everything that is calming and a opposite to the stressful daily business life and lets Carmilla spoil her youngest one with full attention and a few cuddles here and there. She often tolds her Daughter how much she loves her in Spanish. And yes during playing Hair dresser in the Nursery room, of course Carmillas Hair gets messed up, because what is a more challenging Task for an powerful Overlord- than letting a 2 year old mess up your hair and get lots of Toddler hugs and kisses as rewards.

Rosie

U. -> Always there to lend an Ear, doing Favors in Exchange for Soul-Deals, Owner of Rosies Emporium and as a very powerful and well spoken Overlord Rosies Approach to the tiny little spinning Teacup in her Life is all full of positive love and a lots of praise. A Lady should be raised well to show Manners and she teaches the Toddler the Basics of saying please and thank you before the little one learns how to take her first steps. While buzzing around her Store she always holds close to her little Teacup. Auntie Rosie soon got a new favorite Nickname for the Overlord and the Words Mama Rosie are like Music in her ears!

-> Carrying her little Blessing around even Rosie is full aware the Toddler Cannibal Girl can walk. Showering her with Pats on the Head, a fresh cut pinky finger as a treat, a cup of the little ones favorite Tea or just a Trip to Pride Rings Zoo, to have a wonderful Mother-Daughter Bonding Time and hold the tiny Demon close who unconditionally loves and trusts Rosie. Without endless power battles or deals to be strike. Rosie loves to explain the different Hellish Zoo Animals to her Toddler and just to make it more Fun like to compares the Amimals to her own „Zoo“. And at the End to show her Affection even more, the little One is allowed to pick a Plushie from the Souvenier Shop.

And yes of course she already has a little Plush Zoo Collection of her own. And you can guess, who as visiting Rosies Shop, has the Honor to be introduced to the little Plushie Zoo every Single time…again…ans over again? With a dear(ly) inpatient Smile on his Face while Rosie is deeply proud of her little Sweet Pumpkin Pie.

Velvette

-> As the Social Media Overlord, Fashion Icon and Backbone of the Vees, she is definitely the cool mother who dont back up from useing a few curse words and teaching her Toddler, that the World is spinning around her Vee Family. She is damn direct when something pisses her off. She is critical and judgemental when it comes to fashion - so there is no chance a stubborn toddler that wants to wear a pink dress with yellow boots and terrible rainbow colored socks! Not under Vevlettes watchful Eye!

( HAZBIN HOTEL

SEASON 2 ENDING SPOILERS!! )

When Valentino ripped off Vox’s head, blood poured out of Vox’s body, yet he still didn’t die.

Do you think that was Vox’s only body since he ended up in Hell, or did he not only modernize his head to fit the latest TV models, but also change his entire form from time to time?

This raises questions for me: if his body and head are separate parts, how could he even have blood if he’s a “robot” TV villain?

And on top of that, he seems to be immortal. When Valentino hit him on the head with a glass, Vox’s TV face cracked, and it looked like fractures appeared, but he didn’t suffer any permanent damage. Then at the end of season 2, Val literally ripped his head off, which makes the whole thing quite confusing to me.

Could Vox’s data be saved in the Cloud? XD

I hope this wasn’t Vox's only physical body.

He have a manic and hyper‑narcissistic personality, especially driven by the desire to prove himself to Alastor.

By the end of the second season, sadly he became truly evil, same time pushing Valentino and Velvette away from him side.

Yet I feel bad for Voxxie, because him mutilation must have been deeply painful.

I believe Val and Vel genuinely love him, but not the extra power-hungry, distorted version of himself.

Just as Vox loves them too,

though his narcissism and

inferiority complex

have driven him mad. ❤️‍🩹

Lil update :

After reading up, I found out that supposedly sinners are capable of regenerating from injuries as long as they’re not inflicted by an angelic weapon. However, the series hasn’t yet shown how this process actually works. So my line of thought also went toward the idea that in Season 3 Vox might either receive a fully robotic body, or eventually regrow his former one over time. In any case, it might not be a permanent injury, since Val loves him—and when Val tore off Vox’s head, it seemed more like an attempt to snap him out of his madness rather than a final act of destruction.
