But the good thing is that I've done the playing-with-paint thing, I did the thing where I make piles of embroidery floss bobbins so that I can just grab a project and start... This should hold me for a while. Especially since I have a knitting commission starting up soon, which will take a bunch of time away from making pretty string pictures.

Wheeeeee planning! I'm just about ready to get back to stitching and I'm getting excited about it. Between postcarding and other real-life responsibilities getting in the way, it's been... well, probably NOT as long as it feels like.

More prework today. These are kind of like what goes into my mood journal, except instead of trying to figure out my own feelings I'm trying to figure out a feeling for a plant. Which doesn't make a ton of sense when I actually type it out.

Back to the beginning! That candy cane camellia was the final canvas from my last planning session, so I went through my collection of reference photos and pulled out a stack of canvases and started thinking about what to do next. I used to just launch straight into stitching (because drawing is NOT my forte) but pulling out colored pencils and a tiny sketchbook and taking some "getting to know you" time turns out to be worth it. I'll probably do a few more little sketches like this from each photo I pulled out... before I paint the background, before I start pulling out embroidery floss, before I actually start stitching... and hopefully then spend less time wibbling when I've got a needle in my hand.
