Catherine and Annick were standing in front a small white coffin, surrounded by many people that knew them and their daughter, Savannah. There were no tears in the eyes of the two wives, because the pain was so big that they couldn’t cry. Being in one funeral that they never thought they would attend in their lives was absolutely painful; they never saw that coming: Savannah’s nose bleeding constantly, her sleepless nights, how she didn’t want to drink Catherine’s milk, often fever and finally, the worst scenario: their only little daughter had leukemia as the doctors said after examinations.

After this, their world started to fall apart, of course. The possibility that Savannah could survive was really low and the wives started to try to deal with that.

But when Savannah closed her small eyes and stopped breathing in her small bed on the Childen’s Hospital of Los Angeles, while holding both moms index fingers with her tiny eyes, Catherine and Annick felt her hearts breaking. They always pictured Savannah growing up surrounded by them, their puppies and a couple of brothers or sisters, whatever came first in their wombs or adoption process. Annick fainted as soon the doctors said that Savannah was dead and Catherine just went to a corner and started to yell and scream. Both knew that life was unfair, but it was too unfair to take away their precious little daughter…

And now they were there, looking at Savanna’s little coffin, their hands holding and without tears in their eyes. They didn’t bother to listen the words that people say to make them feel better, because there wasn’t a way to feel better after what happened.
