The tomb where the remains were discovered had been dug into the ground and once had a reed-roof supported by tree trunks. Traces of fabric found on the remains suggests that they were once wrapped in textiles. This infers that they had been traditionally mummified. The adult remains were uncovered in the fetal position, the position likely symbolic of a rebirth in the afterlife. Half of the remains discovered belong to infants; the remains of which encircled the tomb. To researchers, this suggests a ritual sacrifice. However, the remains of these infants could have been deposited in the site prior to the construction of the tomb. If the infant sacrifice cannot be determined, it can be confirmed that animal sacrifices (mostly guinea pigs, some llama, alpaca, and dog remains) were discovered. A trademark of the Ychsma people, five false heads were also discovered alongside the remains. These were wedged into their bodies as they lie in the fetal position, not placed over their faces. It is believed that these false heads served as an aid to the deceased by giving them a new identity/ persona in the afterlife.
