(...sighing) At this point in the local disaster management process, might as well defrost this thing completely and give it a good cleaning out/wiping dry. There was a lot of melted-down unsavory theoretically-non-toxic-but-unquestionably-icky fluid waste in the bottom.

....Rough tallies suggest that I probably lost €500-ish worth of uncooked/fresh meat and fish alone—a lot of it being stuff I'd bought pre-travel (or before previous trips earlier this year / late in last) to cook over the next couple/few months. The fridge is a slightly different story, as I'd cleaned out a lot of fresh food from there before I hit the road (though a lot of that went into the freezer. Irony, irony...). There are a lot of jarred-up condiments in the fridge that are probably okay, and some that are dubious and need to be evaluated. In any case, now I get to sit around making lists of what didn't survive in one appliance or the other, and what needs to be replaced. (insert more sighing here)
Meanwhile, I went hunting for a freezer management app to help me keep tabs on what's going on in there... as this used to be Peter's job, but he's unfortunately elsewhere occupied; and it's really easy for stuff to get buried in all those drawers. ...This app looks promising. (If I'm right, it also supports scanning groceries into fridge/freezer inventory via their barcodes, which sounds really useful. We'll see.)
