The concept of Potocki slowly removing Hubert from his life due to religious guilt... I am still thinking about it.
It would all gradually occur. Hubert and Potocki could be discussing any matter they were researching at the time and all of a sudden Potocki would feel the need to throw up when remembering the time he got caught researching heliocentrism. The fear of the after life slowly making him lose his way in the present.
Hubert would notice this and of course, confront it - telling the man that his behavior is ridiculous considering the great things he had achieved thus far. Potocki, at the start, would simply dismiss Hubert continuously whenever he brought up the topic.
Yet all is bound to be revealed. He would one day snap at Hubert, telling him that his way of living was idiotic given how dangerous it was. He would try to convince him to lead a normal life - a life with no truth, so that the two of them could conduct research more safely.
I think of Hubert as a man of few words. When he speaks though - it is bound to leave an impact.
I believe Potocki would tell him something along the lines of 'Either quit researching dangerous topics or leave and never come back'. Hubert, on the other hand, not recognizing the man in front of him anymore, would simply sigh and utter his last words to the other man; not hesitating to step into fire if it meant getting to the truth.
Hubert would tell the man in the clearest way possible that he would 'live a life full of regrets' - that this way of living is bound to come back around, similarly to Earth's orbit around the Sun, and once it does, things will not necessarily work in his favor.
I do not know what else to say. I am not creative enough to expand on this but I have not seen enough people speak about them so please reply with your thoughts or tag me in posts about them. I need this so bad, their dynamic has so much potential. My apologies if you already read the previous post about them and found it similar to this one I am not a really good writer, I will admit that.
