This moment in particular lives in my head rent free (its squatting, tbh...) I just...

There's this moment after Ted's speech where he gets up to leave and he hesitates in the doorway.

Charlotte is dead. He never got a call from Pete - or maybe Paul did tell him his brother was killed at Beanies and Paul couldn't save him maybe he didn't even try

But Ted hesitates in the doorway. Because Paul volunteered to save Bill's daughter, and Emma's already confidently part of the gang enough to assume she's coming to help Bill however she can. She doesn't need an invite.

But Ted's "The Creep". Emma just confirmed Ted's biggest fear. He's just the nuisance - a bother everyone puts up with. And now, he's lost everyone who might've cared for him at all.

But he still hesitates, hoping they might invite him along.

Maybe this is just me reading into things, since Joey is such a mesmerizing actor to watch: the type that partners, and listens so well in character brain every performance so there might be small differences between nights

For example, the night I saw it live, I was shocked when I actually got choked up during the part where he begs Charlotte to be with him instead of Sam because he played the scene so straight that night. He held the pause after "This guy's a scumbag - you could upgrade" with such a hopeful look, and for longer than I've seen in any version - hopeful she'd pick him. But then his face fell and as he calls himself a sleezeball it wasn't funny. He said it because he devalued himself and I saw Ted as a man with no self worth and tbh I saw how similar Pete and Ted were once upon a time, I swear to god.

But this is how I interpreted the moment at the end of Act 1:

Ted hesitates, wishing that just for once they would invite him to come with them... cause then, at least, he'd be someone worth dying with.
