She is best known for developing the first waterproof disposable diaper. This earned her a spot in the National Inventors Hall of Fame. She had previously earned a masters degree from Yale University, where she was one of only three women in her graduating class. She was granted 20 patents for convenience items, as well as women-related essentials.
