UK varsity approves only two Malawi universities
Only graduates from two Malawian universities are eligible to use their qualifications for direct consideration into postgraduate programmes at one United Kingdom university. Edge Hill University in England has listed the University of Malawi (UNIMA) and Mzuzu University (MZUNI) as the only Malawian institutions whose master’s degrees are recognised for entry into its postgraduate…
I finally got my hands on some monster after almost a month!!
Doesn't help me be less sleepy but it does help with the brain fog (probably because it helps with the low blood pressure but also because of the whole train of neurotransmitters it intervenes with).
Am I basically self-medicating with caffeine because doctors refuse to consider my low blood pressure could be an issue or a result or symptom of something else? Yes, but hey, it has got me through college and almost 3 masters so far, so I'll take it.
Trying to get up at 8 am tomorrow to work hard (it's past 2 am) because I'm behind on my schedule but truly I think the burnout got so bad I'm not even feeling the stress anymore, I'm just there chilling while I tell at myself in my head, amazing isn't it
hey um what if instead of doing a master's by research, i just write a series of essays and publish them, either online, or officially as individual articles or a book? how would you all feel about that? because i was thinking of taking a painting course on top of library studies to prepare for a different postgrad i kind of need to get a job, so like idk if i have time to get another master's just for vanity or because i can. no matter what, i want to be looking at the scholarship, referencing things properly, and putting together a coherent argument. the question is the format. so:
master's (1 thesis, research framework + 6 topics, 3000 words per topic)
pros - i get a qualification, i can work with my favourite professor again
cons - need to use my real name, a lot of boring parts and structure i don't feel like doing, time pressure, need to finish all my points before sharing it
book (same thing but no formal research section, maybe i could ramble a bit?)
pros - i don't have to do the lit review or methodologies sections (can skip straight to my points), could use a pen name so no doxxing required, it's officially published all in one place
cons - need to wait until everything's done to get any feedback, honestly i've never seen this kind of thing (super in depth character analysis) as a book before so idk which publisher would pick it up
articles (6 articles, 3000-3500 words per article)
pros - less time pressure/don't need to completely finish before people can see it
cons - real name issue, this might not be considered serious enough for anyone to publish, would be serialised so would require multiple applications to all succeed
blog posts/substack? (20+ posts - one for each point, variable in length but probably around 1000 words per point)
pros - most accessible to the widest range of people, can do it in my own time, don't have to doxx myself at all, might be able to split it even smaller into individual points per post instead of 3+ point essays, can make claims without needing to back it up with hard evidence (eg when is tsh set?), if enough people want it i could self publish so it's got potential to be a book anyway
cons - literally no academic validation, whatever i write will count as a non scholarly source even if it's the exact same as what i would've had published, puts it further down on my priorities list
thoughts?

don't bother writing it at all (:c)
Okay so, my current situation is that I'm going to the cinema tonight with an artist pal (I met her at a previous event where we both had stands, we coincided in another one and then we shared a stand for our last event, they're sweetheart and we're on the same age bracket so it's like super nice), movie starts at like 22:20 (that's 10:20pm) and my tutor wrote to me on Monday telling me to send her the full intro draft plus hypothesis and objectives at some point of the week. initially I wanted to have it done last week but a whole bunch of factors accumulated and I got too little work done, and then this week has been going similarly, the idea was to work hard this morning but then I slept like shit last night so I ended up waking up later than planned, them I was a literal zombie for my first couple hours awake and then my parents left for something regarding my brother's kitchen that they're paying for (he's moving into a brand new house with his wife and as a wedding gift my parents are paying for that) do I had to do the laundry she had planned and by then it was 12pm, and my ass was trying to focus back, decided I should maybe stop staring at my thesis doc like an amoeba and switch activity for a couple minutes, logged into Tomodachi so my sisters could see the baby montage for Kiryu and Tsuge's baby, decided I was finally feeling like I could think somewhat properly and I went back to my thesis, 5 minutes into reading the first paragraph I wanted to paraphrase my brother texts me about having to make lunch because he has to eat as soon as he comes home since he starts his shift earlier than usual, so I had to stop and go make lunch, and it was supposed to be relatively quick, just boiling water and cooking the pasta in it, but then my mother called me about having to leave it served and what I had to add to it and blah blah blah, it's freaking 13:40 (1:40 pm) and I just got back to my freaking thesis and now I can't focus again
And like, you might be thinking, you have the entire evening ahead, wrong! Because I had agreed to get to the shopping centre at around 7pm so we could hang out with another artist friend who leaves sooner and then have dinner before the film, I might tell my friend that I'm making it there past 7pm but really if we want to have dinner it can be that much later
At this point I might as well do what I can now and wrap it up tomorrow before lunch so I can submit it to my supervisor...
Oh, also, I've been considering a freelance platform to translate scientific texts from Eng-Sp and Sp-Eng, I think it's a nice way to use my skills (and degrees and certifications) and earn some money while I wait for a vacancy in a research project.

By the way, I didn't update you guys on my thesis situation, so, I turned in 4 pages worth of introduction to my supervisor on Friday, apologised for not reaching out since October and the absolute sweetheart that she is answered me on Monday saying she was glad to see I was not abandoning my thesis and that she'd review my work and come back to me to draft the follow up steps to wrap up the thesis by the end of July.
She just stepped up to become the new Coordinator of the master's degree, so she's been busy this week and I've been loosely working on the rest of my intro while I wait for her to write back again.
So I'm more relaxed now, and since my sisters finished school on Monday things have been hectic around my house because my mother struggles a lot with finding a functional routine but I'm hoping to be able to work on my thesis better now that there's no exams or homework or extracurriculars my sisters need help with.
It was a bit of a hectic week between their last day of school, having to go with them to Ikea on Wednesday and losing the whole evening, mostly because they were going to be there for a while helping out my brother and his wife as they designed their kitchen. I spent 2 hours walking around Ikea with my sisters, I got a small alien plush, one of those itty bitty ones that are less than 2€, I've named him Suo.
But overall I think things are going fine.
I wrote the second paragraph of my thesis introduction, the goal is writing 10-15 pages before I go to bed tonight and submit the draft to my supervisor with a pseudo apology (the apology is for disappearing on her not for only submitting the intro btw, because I refuse to apologise for my personal circumstances and because she's actually a sweetheart and she's not going to be mad, she's probably going to be understanding) tomorrow morning.
Think I can do it, the Twilight Princess playlist is working, I'm just unmotivated as hell in general
Finished going through all the papers picking out the info for my introduction and I think that's part of the block I had, hopefully I'll wrap up the intro by Sunday at the latest, and then get on with the rest of the thesis, I've already decided I'm likely going to turn this one in for the September deadline, not because it can't be done before the 26th, realistically it could, but because I think my supervisor might recommend it so I get a good mark and also because otherwise the stress is going to eat me alive.
My parents will likely get upset, so I'll have to frame this to them gently as "hey, a research professional, who's the department manager btw, is the one behind this decision to make sure I get the best grade possible, are you really going to get mad that I want the best grade I can possibly get" hopefully by framing this under the "academic overachiever" mindset will make them understand things.
Seriously, whoever told my parents I was gifted and the damn paediatrician that told my mother I couldn't possibly be autistic because I looked towards her when she asked me questions when my preschool teacher had a list of signs I exhibited that she brought to every parent-teacher meeting to tell my parents to please get me tested, I have serious beef with them...
Been suffering my whole life due to this....
I need a break from academics I swear, they asked me if I was going to get a PhD and I was like "ask me in a couple years maybe but I fear the answer will still be no", and they're like super disappointed that I don't want to get a PhD like, it's not the end of the world chill out
I swear I think if I have to do another masters or a PhD the next thing I'm having is the mental breakdown I've been holding off since I was 13...
Kind of ironic that after over a decade of being suicidal in degrees, restrictive eating disorders, being bullied in primary and highschool, all the family bullshit, raising my sisters (I was 11 when they were born), depression, some years of self-harm... the think that's going to finally have me hitting the brakes is my 4th master thesis... Like, realistically it makes sense, but damn...
