Pernille's interview after today's game in a mix of German and English
Me when I'm speaking German
hi sunny! i absolutely adore your MMA sukuna fics (cauliflower ears is my favorite, so sweet) and i wanted to ask if you could please talk about MMA kuna after retirement? i know you mentioned him starting a podcast and i was thinking it would be so funny if one episode sukuna mentioned something about having his wife on for next week’s episode and all of his fans are so curious. most of them think of sukuna as some sort of alpha male (he isn’t lmao) who is super dominant and in control and so they think he’ll be the same around his wife. next week rolls around and sukuna is the complete opposite of what those people think. he’s clearly smitten, absolutely adores his woman and it totally throws people for a loop because he can be so aggressive in the ring! it’s like he’s a different person. i also think retired MMA fighter sukuna is soooo cute so if you’re feeling up to it i’d love to know your thoughts!
im a cauliflower ears enjoyer too! love when sukuna is portrayed in a softer, more sentimental way, domesticity suits the big meanie. and thank you so much for sending this in, it's so cute! im sorry i never took his podcast seriously lmao.
despite his retirement from competing, sukuna doesn't change too much. he's still the hardworking fighter people know him to be. his days now spent training the starry-eyed juniors at the gym and helping other fighters with physical rehabilitation. although he's no saint, is very selective with who he gives attention to, which is why he scoffed at the podcast idea when his manager pitched it.
still, it gives him something to do. a hobby, a sidegig. just for a trial period of say six months? he is so sure to be bored of it...fast forward a few hundred episodes later and it's become a big part of his routine. practically a natural, it comes with being confident, he supposes, but a tiny part of him likes the attention too. although, he doesn't rely too much on the numbers, it doesn't matter if no one listens because, well, who wouldn't listen?
it's entertaining and kinda silly picturing him on stream trashing other fighters and the state of competitive mixed martial arts while the live chat spams him with donations. my favourite bits include: 1) sukuna talking about his wife, not in a 'im a wife guy. i love my wife. look at me im such a good husband' way but he genuinely thinks about her all the time, is in love with her so much so that everything reminds him of her 2) sukuna talking about his little shit of a nephew yuuji and 3) having reoccurring guest gojo satoru on despite their lifelong feud and never addressing it.
oh you have beef with sukuna? tune in for the latest episode and watch him talk about your doping scandals and terrible form, "let's watch a clip from our latest match, look at all these rookie mistakes you made, that's why you suck haha. now let's watch my knockout move in slow motion." there's a lot of shop talk to. fitness, food, and these fumbling fans needing more of him, more of his reactions and ramblings. his guests have all been fighters, trainers, or industry people who didn't hate his guts. but let's be honest, even if they did, all is forgiven in that hour. sportsmanship above all and the like.
it's why she was sceptical of how she'd contribute. think of it as his way of breaking from form, stepping away from the usual format. she's technically a guest but it would be an honour for him to have her on his show. his wife is a private person, wary of people being rude, judgemental, she'd want to distance herself from that part of his life. sukuna's very protective of her too and he's not the kind to share. show off maybe, a few pictures and anecdotes are fine but this is a whole different ball game, she's being candid and making an appearance for the first time. she's finally going to be in the spotlight. but he wouldn't have asked if he wasn't sure about it. obviously he tries to convince her, tells her that the show is doing really well and since he's retired, he gets to open up about his personal life a bit more, and anyway "it's my show, i do what i want," means he's made up his mind.
fans don't know much about their relationship. sure, there are glimpses of her at his matches. seeming to disappear amongst the audience, but he spots her like a shining beacon always. who could forget that famous photo of sukuna lifting her in the middle of the octagon while she kisses him under bright lights, a roaring crowd going wild after clinching his final win. her hand holding his face, thumb brushing against the bruised, swollen cheek of their reigning champion, he's battered and bleeding, but oh how she makes it all worth it.
that same photo now hangs tucked away in his studio, right behind where she sits in frame. it's so unlike him to rise from his seat, walking over to her to fix her hair, caressing her cheek before he lays a kiss there. back turned to the camera, no one actually sees it, but the mic picks up her soft hum, the gentle, caring tone in his voice when he whispers, "you okay?" what they're most impressed by is how she's got him wrapped around her finger, are those hearts in his eyes or what, not even kidding, he's actually swooning and blushing like a lovesick pup.
they can't believe their eyes when sukuna turns into the sweet and loving husband, a sight never seen before. his gentle touches and even gentler words are reserved for only her. of course he teases her a few times once she's more comfortable, pokes fun at her biting her lip and fiddling with the sleeves of his hoodie—more because he wishes to point out the obvious claim he has on her, that she wears a piece of his clothing, and thus, smells like him too, moreso it insinuates that she had probably picked it up in a hurry, in that casual manner, oh why don't i put on my husband's hoodie because it's the most comfortable thing on hand—even lets it slip on accident that they had sex the night before, which makes her stiffen, shooting him a daring look as if she were ready to dig into him with a snarky retort, and no one misses the slight dilation of her pupils when they stare at each other wordlessly, an exchange only the couple can decipher. (user sukunasun donates 100$ with the message 'pls release the tape pls')
she gets her revenge when he asks curiously "do you listen to the pod?" and her laugh stuns the viewers, suddenly aware that she's not as meek as they'd initially believed, in fact, it's become clear that sukuna has met his match. a pretty coy smile that turns into a smirk as she bites down on her lower lip, "hm...only when gojo's on as a guest, you know how i feel about him..." there's a fawning lilt in her voice, sighing as she flutters her eyelashes for effect, sounding not the least bit guilty at admitting her crush on sukuna's rival.
sukuna's expression darkens, the kind that reads 'you're in trouble', it makes her squirm in her seat, feeling a heat set alight in her belly, it shouldn't feel so exciting, enticing, but a quick glance to the timer and she realises there's still about half an hour to go and she can't wait for this to be over so he'd chase her down, yank her shorts off and punish her with multiple orgasms and maybe after that, she'll be off the hook.
"did you just admit to liking another man on my show?" sukuna doesn't sound upset but there's definitely a storm brewing there. especially when a day or two after the episode is posted, gojo's left a comment below from his own channel, writing 'will admit i've got a crush on her too' skipping past all others to take its spot as the top comment.
they carry on answering questions about how they met, favourite things, "i wanted to have you on so we could spend some time together, it's nice having you be a part of this, just us talking, i think the fans like you more than me," he says with full honesty. after all that waiting, they finally get a glimpse at a small bit of her funny, flirty, all-round goodness to her. how she tames him, turns him on, everyone knows he's ready to end the show and jump her bones the moment the cameras turn off and his wife is used to the eyefucking at this point so she takes the hint but for the sake of the audience, she says, "maybe we'll do this again sometime?"
it's not until later when they're in the midst of fucking bare and bent over his studio desk does he think to keep her to himself from now on. just until she behaves herself. until the fans beg and plead for her to come back. knowing firsthand how difficult it is to stay away from her too long.
This genre of asking people intentionally tear jerking questions on live tv right after/in the middle of some of their hardest moments professionally will never fail to make my blood boil and I’m forever in awe of the ones who have the poise to handle it. “Is it tough for you (…) that it’s all coming to an end now and you don’t want it to happen?” I mean— seriously?
The “it is what it is and it’s no problem” is killing me (and him, which is what actually is killing me).
Also gotta love the choice of words at Thomas re the sacking of people. Tells the tale I guess. ✌🏻
