Portulaca eruca
This small Portulaca comes from northern Argentina, Bolivia, and Paraguay, and we are pleased to have it growing in our crevice garden. The name "eruca" means caterpillar, and our plant's branches do resemble fuzzy caterpillars. The magenta flower color is often seen in plants in this family (and in the related Montiaceae), and it really makes our little plant stand out!

[Portulaca]
Did a little experimental dish! I harvested sea marigold (Calendula maritima) tips along with some purslane (Portulaca oleracea) and stir fried them! It ended up good! (The stuff on the bottom is barley, which I am sad I accidentally oversalted ;=;)
The sea marigold added a resiny-minty flavor, along with a little bitterness. I definitely want to experiment with it more, especially since the sea marigold I have is a beast and puts out new growth almost year round.

Daydream believer
Summary: Portulaca wakes up in a great mood.
Warnings: None. Portulaca strikes me as the type to constantly live in a musical...
Words: 300
Prompt: June 30th - The Monkees - Daydream Believer /“Oh, I could hide 'neath the wings - Of the bluebird as she sings - The six o'clock alarm would never ring - But six rings and I rise - Wipe the sleep out of my eyes”
The sun-rays are soft, draping Portulaca’s form in a warm blanket. With a small sigh, she opens her eyes, rubbing her face.
“Oh, I could hide ‘neath the wings – of the bluebird as she sings…”
A sigh, followed by a lazy stretch to grab her glasses. “The six o’clock alarm would never ring…”
As if on cue, the clock starts to shake. Portulaca slams it quiet, arm limp –
Before jumping from bed.
“But six rings and I rise – wipe the sleep out of my eyes!”
She runs to the windows, throwing them open. “Because it’s such a bright day – and I’m still alive, hurray!”
There’s a squirrel on the tree nearby, sniffing as Portulaca waves to him. Quickly, she goes to her wardrobe, pulling out a striped dress to waltz with. “Oh, what’s it like… to be a daydreamerrr?”
“Portulaca, stop singing and get down here! You’ll be late for work!”
She jolts at the call, and the squirrel dashes away, frightened.
Portulaca cracks her door open, pouting at the empty staircase. “I’m coming, Mother!”
There’s only an indistinct grumble as an answer, but Portulaca doesn’t care, humming the rest of the song. It takes more than that to dampen her spirit – and she can feel today will be particularly jolly, so she hastens to get ready.
The kitchen smells great – of deer blood and brioche. Her mother briefly turns from the stove, eyeing her critically.
“Don’t you have anything else to wear?” she mutters, pointing at her bright orange caraco, only to turn full on as Portulaca breezes by the table. “Where do you –”
“I’ll see you tonight!” Portulaca shouts over her shoulder, skipping out the door.
Her colleagues’ voices can be heard down the road, and ah – what a great day to be working at Kellington Publishing.

Bio: Yu Kanda is an Exorcist and member of the European Branch of the Black Order, formerly of the Asian Branch. He is a Second Exorcist, an Exorcist raised in a test tube and artificially modified to bear the Innocence of the previous Exorcist his brain formerly belonged to. He is also the second incarnation of the lover of fellow Second Exorcist Alma Karma's former incarnation. Kanda is a cold, stoic, and arrogant person who shows little regard to the lives of those around him, even his fellow Exorcists. He is, more often than not, willing to leave those who slow him down behind, even if it means their death and especially if they are not Exorcists. Since coming back after Alma's death, Kanda has expressed repentant feeling towards his behavior for all of those years, blaming himself for Allen's current state and feeling like he can't die in peace until he repays Allen's kindness.
