2. What is especially important about the design is that it is how easy it is for a nurse and doctor to carry around because it is light weight and can go around your neck instead of your pockets where you are carrying many other objects. It is also important how easy and simple it is to figure out how to use. We use our stethoscopes every day for important reasons so the simplicity and light weight design is essential.
3. The stethoscope is thick tubing, which is about 22-27 inches long. At the top of there are two ear tips, which are inserted into each ear. At the end of the tubing is a metal circle, which is placed on the patient.
4. Using six pictures to convey it to an audience I would show pictures of a nurse using it to listen to a patients lung sounds, a picture of a healthcare provider wearing it around their neck, a picture of a healthcare provider folding it up and putting it in their pocket, a picture of the different parts of the stethoscope, pictures of how to clean your stethoscope, and a picture of how to change the ear pieces to make it more comfortable.
5. Four objects or samples that would be effective at a presentation for an audience to hold or touch are:
1. The ear buds because they can feel how cushioned and comfortable
2. The stethoscope itself because it is important for them to feel the
weight of it and see how it can fit around your neck or in a pocket.
3. Different types of stethoscope and different size stethoscopes so they
can see the differences between them. Some may like electric
stethoscopes compared to the regular ones and come may like the
longer tubing compared to the shorter tubing.
4. A person should be there that they can use to test the stethoscopes and
be able to listen to heart or lung sounds.
6. Nurses use stethoscopes multiple times a day on multiple patients. Auscultation can tell you so much about a patients health and is a very essential part of the nurses assessment. In the article, “At Bat: Nurses step up to design plate,” by Ann DiNardo, she explained that more nurses are becoming involved in design processes and are working with architects to help explain healthcare needs. It is important for nurses to have a voice because they use healthcare products, such as stethoscopes, on a daily basis and know the positive and negatives about them when it comes to them using them as well as how they are for the patients. It is important that a person who uses stethoscopes to design them so they can ensure that they are lightweight because they know how much we have to carry and how important it is to have them on us at all times and also to ensure it works well so we can hear important changes in our patients health. The stethoscope is a great design because it is lightweight and we are able to have easy access to it by having it around our neck or in our pocket.
