(1/24 scale) Poppins restaurant Worcester - Completed: What a journey this one has been and all because I have such fond memories of this place. I also knew that the people of Worcester also hold valuable memories of Poppins too and so it really is a special piece for the city. This is also the largest piece I've ever made. It measures just over 1ft high and in width which is quite large for a miniature 😂 I've also created the first plaque where I will sign my pieces from now on and so I will see if I can include the number of editions of each piece - that will usually be 1 as my pieces are solely handmade... (1/24 scale) Poppins restaurant Worcester: It's not quite finished just yet, a few more details to go but I thought I'd show you the pretty side and then the ugly interior (not the actual interior of Poppins that's truly a beautiful place 👌) but I thought at least I could show you a peek behind the curtain at how the lights are hung from a floor above the ceiling... (1/24 scale) Poppins restaurant Worcester: So I remember Poppins oroginally having some pretty fantastic background music to add to the atmosphere when you were inside tucking into a favourite 5 breakfast... So how could I leave out the Easter egg of the sound systems up high on the walls... (1/24 scale) Poppins restaurant Worcester: Windows... Windows... Windows... What a pane... 🤣 Now I had to think extra carefully about these as from the start they were the part I was unsure exactly how to replicate... I resorted to creating a template for each (as hand cut tolerances can change... learnt from experience...) and then cut the acrylic to shape remembering to also include the little pane of glass on each that opens 👌 I then needed to add in the framing that each window has but instead of being white, it's a patina sort of green... thank God for the Sharpie! (1/24 scale) Poppins restaurant Worcester: I've been test fitting the tables and chairs so that I can now work around them... There a couple of dividers that have a small curtain on top which will be a nice detail to add. It's not pictured but I'm now working on the till area just as you go through the door 👌 With some jazzy retro 90's carpet down it will all look the part... (1/24 scale) Poppins restaurant Worcester: The five 'four seater' tables have been completed (minus the menus and table top details 👌 I went through s process of spraying them with a chrome silver acrylic to ensure they look like metal which has worked out well 👍 i can't wait to work on the interior especially now I have found some awesome reference photos! I can't explain my constant desire for the best references but when you find good ones it opens more doors which is never a bad thing 🙌 - On another note I wanted to say that since a new lockdown period is about to take place, I encourage anybody who is wondering what to do with the time and wprryong about potentially being lonely, focus on a project, make something, learn new skills. I know in the previous lockdown of I hadn't persisted like I do to continually make my art pieces I would have gone crazy. Art is a way forward and of you're interested in a project - go for it! (1/24 scale) Poppins restaurant Worcester: I've moved inside the restaurant now and I'm building up the tables and chairs... This is something that required it's own unique method for. The tables were simple enough to mark create each but for the backs of the hairs I made up a template to stick to. I used black electrical wire for the shapes as it always has been really easy to shape in the past and this was no different. I used the template each time to conform the wire to the lines and then cut them where necessary. I had to use tweezers to insert the wire together... (1/24 scale) Poppins restaurant Worcester: The Poppins name is a crucial part of the old look of this building. I've carefully cut carved out the letters using my trusty rotary tool and I'm pleased with how things turned out. The first 'n' that I carved out did snap when but that was down to me not judging the snap point for some of the excess acrylic... My mindset steps 'you can't fail but only learn' and we move!
