I know Detective!Dick isn’t a popular trope but man oh man wouldn’t it be hilarious to throw him and Jim Gordon into a fast paced multi-jurisdiction investigation between Gotham, Blüdhaven, and Metropolis where they have to work together and try so so hard not to mention the elephant in the room (Batman, who neither of them are supposed to know) or the other elephant (so far nobody in Blüdhaven PD knows Dick is Bruce Wayne’s son) and yet another elephant (Jim knows Dick is downplaying his detective skills and letting him take the lead) and to round out the herd, one more elephant (he’s still dating Babs but only as Nightwing and Jim can’t threaten Nightwing with a shotgun) and then there’s the crushing realization that they should absolutely be calling Batman but, again, neither of them “know” Batman.

Claire kissed his lips, he made no face this time
Inside him a spark ignited, because holy fuck claire actually kissed him
"thy lips are warm! Then, I'll be brief. Oh happy dagger! This is thy sheath" a 'dagger' makes it's way into claire's abdomen-
And a sword slices Jim's heart, the spark snuffs out.
The kiss wasn't for him this time, it was for Romeo
"there rest, and let me die" claire 'dies', eli spoke his line and the curtains drew
The applause was the same, the people were the same, but claire never even spoke to him after
No jokes about dying this time, no holding hands. Just a sickening silence as they rose to their feet
Just two hours earlier Bular was felled by his hands, and somehow this felt worse than killing the brute
Because he tried to get claire to like him, and she just didn't this time
And now the grief lay heavy on his breast, the arrow that had stricken him blind had missed his dear claire
And if claire doesn't like him, he shall do as she bides and forget her
But who shall teach him how to forget a fair woman such as this one?
