141x reader cw: mentions of alcohol, praise kink if you squint a/n: had some silly thoughts about these four idiots + reader pining idk
You're not really sure how it started.
…or at least that's what you tell yourself. On how four elite soldiers seek you out after every mission like it's the only thing keeping them tethered to this world.
Each battlefield is a sensory nightmare. The acrid scent of spent gunpowder, decay and gasoline clinging to everything in sight. The earsplitting sounds of artillery, mortars and the crack of rifles and snipers. When the adrenaline wears off and the world starts to make more season, they need to anchor themselves to a real and physical thing. That's what they needed too. Something solid and alive.
You think it was Soap who started it first. Soap was always the 'touchy-feel' type. Always slinging an arm around your shoulders after the gym when you were both sweaty and sore. Soap's hand would find its way to your waist or thigh when sitting next to each other at the pub. Pulling you closer when you were getting shit faced and giggly to whisper something embarrassing about someone on the team. "Did I tell ye about that time Ghost-" "Shut it, Johnny." Ghost groans from across the pub booth, his patience hanging on by a thread. Gaz barely tries to conceal his laugh behind his pint glass. Soap lets out a loud, rumbling belly laugh that really shouldn't have made you feel so fuzzy and warm inside. You told yourself it was just the shit whiskey. And now? When Soap takes his hands away from you, you almost pout in protest feeling that missing warmth and weight of it. "I'll tell ye when we're out of earshot from Lieutenant Happy Pants aye?" Soap grins, clinking his glass against yours with a wink. Those glistening blue eyes followed the curve of your neck as you downed the rest of your drink. Soap's mind start to wonder. He was definitely not thinking about putting his lips on your neck teeth grazing every sensitive spot to make you gasp, definitely not thinking about how you'd feel in his lap his hands on your hips and thighs. No, definitely not. Or maybe it was Gaz? Somehow he'd always find himself in the common room at the same time as you. He'd sit shoulder to shoulder with you, his arm draped on the back of the couch while you watched some reruns of a shitty reality TV show. Gaz wasn't as daring or shameless as Soap but God did his fingers itch to touch you. He wonders how soft your skin would be, how he'd trace the line of your neck, your shoulder- "What do you think of this?" You shove your phone into Gaz's face, a picture of an outfit on your screen. Gaz blinks at you then his eyes move to your phone. It's a picture of a model wearing one of those black silky slip dresses. "I have a friend's wedding coming up. I just have no clue what to wear." You ramble on but for Gaz it's going in one ear and coming out of the other. He's just thinking about you in that dress, how the fabric would cling to your curves and flow on your body. It seems like such a simple thing but Gaz realizes he's never seen you out of fatigues or sweats. "Think you'd look good in it," Gaz clears his throat, trying to push away the image of you in that dress away from his mind. "You got a plus one or-?"
You side eye him as you flip through more dresses on your phone. "You want to be bored senseless while listening to people talk about their office jobs?" Gaz shrugs, a small smile tugging at his lips. "If it's an open bar, wouldn't be too bad right?" You lower your phone and consider his offer. Having back up is never a bad thing, something that you learnt very quickly from working from the four of them. You told yourself to think from a tactical point of view, like someone watching your six out in the field because anything else would make those tiny, terrified feelings start to bloom inside your chest. Something you can't afford as someone in your position and job.
Ghost was subtle in his own way. Every time you were at the gym, he was there too. Which made sense that this hulking specimen of a man would be at the gym constantly. And fuck, it was hard not to notice the way the muscles in his back, chest and shoulders flexed beneath his compression shirt. It was downright sinful. You were setting up the bar and weights for a bench press, trying to push for a new PR. When you'd settle under the bar ready to lift, Ghost was already hovering above you mask obscuring his face but his were eyes locked on you. "Need a spotter?" His body shadowed yours as he hovered over you, your dumbbells ready as you leaned back on the bench. "Oh sure." You'd be lying if your pulse didn't stutter at the sight of him over you like this. It only got worse when your arms would start to shake and his hands would find their way to your elbows steadying you. Each touch was deliberate but they way they'd linger on your skin went beyond training. Ghost leaned closer as you kept pushing, your muscles burning as you can feel your form slip slightly. "One more. You can take it, love." His voice rumbled with praise making you even more aware of every movement and touch between the two of you. And when your gaze flickered upwards to his, you'd swear his gaze lingered on how the material of your shirt was sticking to your skin and how your chest was heaving with exhaustion. "That's it, love." Ghost praised once again as you lifted your arms up once more, muscles already starting to ache but each word of his praise only made you want to push through it. It was addicting. Ghost took the weights from your hands as you sat up on the bench eyeing the defined muscles of his back as he sets them down with ease. Christ. Does he buy his compression shirts a size too small or what? Mercifully, your face was already flushed from the exercises. No one would be able to tell you were thinking if Ghost was unconsciously making you develop a praise kink.
Price was definitely the most 'professional' about this in his own way. One Christmas you were struggling to find your Captain a gift and you were not going to buy him more fucking cigars. You took the risk and bought him a new cologne and dropped a pretty penny on it even if you knew Price had been wearing the same cologne since you met him. You thought you fucked up considering the small, tight lipped smile he gave you when you handed him his present. The truth was he covets that cologne. It makes him think of you through the notes of pepper, amber and oud. It was masculine, smooth and heavy scent that clung to his clothes and his gear. It was the perfect scent for someone like John Price. He'd remember how nervous you were when you gave it to him, averting his gaze and handing him the carefully wrapped box like it burned you. One time, Price leaned past you to grab your empty mug of tea from your desk and you caught a whiff of him wearing it. The scent of the perfume deepened on him mixing with that earthy, smokiness from his cigars and the metallic tang of gunpowder. You tensed your body not to lean towards him and take a deeper whiff. "You haven't happened to see my flannel? The red one." He asked, handing you a fresh mug of tea that you didn't ask for. "Haven't seen it Cap. You sure you didn't leave it in the laundry room? Stuff goes missing all the time there." You shrugged as you take the mug from him, his mug you realise. Plain navy blue with a chipped handle and tea stained on the inside. Price lets out a frustrated grunt as he rubs his jaw. "Where the bloody hell did I leave that thing?" He grumbled to himself before as he walked towards the door. He chalked it up to old age catching up to him. That had to be the reason, right? Little did Price know is that you nicked it from the laundry room when he was distracted. You swore you'd return it subtly but that was two weeks ago. Now it's resting on the back of your desk chair in your room, putting it around your shoulders when it gets too cold or when you want to get another whiff of him. Of that sharp crack of pepper and smoke, softened by the oud and that distinct smell of him. They'd never tell you how they felt. Feelings like that when explosives and bullets are involved is an ill advised mix for anyone. Even if they did come forward what were the chances you'd be interested back? It was something to dream about. A dream where they would freely fall into your arms after a long day and breathe you in and hold onto you like you were their only anchor to this world. But for now they have this. The small moments in between a lingering touch or a stolen flannel.
