The ups and downs in the life of several mischievous school boys in the turbulent period of World War II in Oulu, Northern Finland. The young men, in the absence of their fathers, who have gone to war, are fascinated by war and the German Army soldiers and dream of heroic deeds.
The second lead role, Jake, was played by 17-year-old Vesa-Matti Loiri. In the end Jake’s mother leaves for Germany without him. Jake desperately runs after the train and throws himself to hang onto the train, screaming heartbreakingly: “Mother!”
