Here's another section of that one sided RedPogey fic draft I shared a bit of a while back!! I wanted to finish the middle section of this fic before sharing this bit, but this draft has been sitting untouched for a While now and I'm like if I don't get around to finishing the whole fic I Really wanna share this part, because I love themmm and this moment was the Main thing that made me wanna write this fic in the first place lol So here it is
("Pogey, I'm sorry, but I-I only like you as a friend..!" She finally blurted out, unable to bring herself to look Pogey in the eyes, her face burning. She stared at the floor instead, imagining their crushed expression and feeling her heart ache. There was a horrible silence for a moment, and then, just as she was contemplating running away to her cave and refusing to ever come out or see anybody ever again, Pogey finally spoke "That's okay, Red!" Her head immediately snapped up at the sound of their voice, as cheerful as ever "..Uh..Wh-What..?" She asked eventually, baffled at the way Pogey still smiled at her just as brightly as they always did. They didn't seem shaken by her words at all "Y-You're not..upset..?" Pogey shook their head in response "Nope!" They said, as if this conversation was the most casual thing in the world; as if she didn't just break their heart "I..Uh..Are you sure?" She asked again, entirely thrown off by their reaction and unsure what else she was supposed to say now. Pogey nodded "Yep!" She blinked at them blankly, stuttering for a moment in confusion "Pogey.." She began again, wanting to make sure they were both on the same page "You..like me..right?" She asked slowly, carefully "Uh-huh! I like you a whole lot, Red!" Pogey replied, smiling warmly as they nodded "But, I-I mean, as..more than just a friend..right?" She asked, not wanting to leave any room for misunderstanding. Pogey's smile became somewhat bashful, and they nodded again "Uh-huh.." She was silent for a moment "So..why aren't you upset that I only like you as a friend?" She asked finally. Of course she was relieved that Pogey wasn't hurt by her rejection, but she had worried so much about ruining their friendship by telling them this that their calmness about it was jarring "Because I love being friends with you, Red!" Pogey answered cheerfully. It was a simple statement, something Pogey had told her many times before, but this time their tone carried a certain weight, an earnestness in place of their usual silliness, that made the words incredibly reassuring. Her shoulders finally relaxed..They were still friends..Pogey wasn't mad at her..Pogey wasn't going to avoid her, or treat her differently because she didn't feel the same..Pogey still liked her; as a crush but as a friend too. She sighed in relief "I love being friends with you too, Poges..You're a great friend." She said, smiling fondly at them..)
