My (haphazard?) take on Alien Stage and it’s primary message!!!!!!
Obvious Spoilers for the series as a whole, but predominantly Karma!!!
I posted this on tiktok but I was so proud of myself for it that I thought to post it here as well! So here we go! (I haven’t forgotten Servamp trust me I’ve just been caught up with so much going on w my life…)
It’s very clear that love and pain are very important in the narrative, which I think is showing that to love is to be in pain. Pain and grief are the scars, the fingerprints love leaves behind. It is the proof that you were loved and/or did love. Every character has loved and suffered because of it. All of their deaths trace back to the fact that they loved whatever it was they died for. (Sua for Mizi, Ivan for Til, Hyuna for Luka, etc)
Loving, and therefore hurting, is such an intrinsic part of being human. It's the core of humanity and the human experience. And that's what makes Alien Stage as a series so beautiful. I think this is showing that, that will- the will to love and live/die for love, is what it truly means to be human. That can never be taken away.
In the example of Alien Stage, humanity has been stripped of everything by the segyein. They were removed from their planet, their heritage, and were stripped of their autonomy. But despite all that, humans still love. They love because that desire to both love and be loved is such a core part of the human spirit. (the indomitable human spirit, if you will.) Their love is proof that despite everything being taken from humanity, the one thing that can never be taken away is your humanity. They can't take away your will to love, and the hurt you experience from that.
Alnst goes to show that even though loving is never easy, and never will be, it is something you should always hold onto. If you let it slip away, you lose what it means to be human. Even if you push all love and hurt away, you will always end up miserable, because deep down we all want to love.. and be loved. (Even if we don't think we do!)
My interpretation of the ending with Till is it is a form of closure to this story, and the start of the new one. The next story will most likely be never elaborated on, but that's how life goes. You will never know where humanity will go once you have passed on, but what you experienced is more than enough. The story of humanity is one with no end, because it is not over. That's what makes life such a beautiful and precious thing. You are always living in history. From how I see it, Till seeing the child who looks like Ivan and Mizi is a reminder to him that he has loved and has been loved. Knowing this, he smiles, because he knows that is what makes him human. His hurt and scars (both emotional and physical weren't for nothing. It is literal proof that he is alive and that he is human.
This makes him the true winner of Alien Stage. He is free in the way he can be and live, despite his shortcomings.
