Monosexual: sexual attraction to one gender.

Multiromantic: romantic attraction to multiple genders.

Multifluid Pride Flag

Since the end of Bisexual Visibility Month is quickly approaching I wanted to make sure this coining post came out on time! So here it is!

Multifluid - a orientation in which one is fluid between different mspec orientations (ex. someone who is fluid between bi and pan or fluid between bi, pan and omni). People who are multifluid may not necessarily be fluid exclusively between mspec orientations but identify as such to put emphasis on their mspec identity. It can be considered a form of abrosexuality that always encompasses more than one mspec orientation. 

This is an opt-in label for those who find the distinction useful, and shouldn't be applied to abros prescriptively without their permission. Always respect the self-identification of other people over what definitions they might fall into.

Design Concept

i feel like it's popular among non-bi mspec people and that's it. bi people who aren't exclusionists tend to use bi as the umbrella, and so do organizations. polysexual and plurisexual are used in more academic contexts, in addition to bisexual, as the umbrella term.

i think it's just a relatively new term. even i didn't use it at first. i used multi. so i think most people don't know about it. that's not to say there aren't people who purposely don't use it. i've had people defend not using it by saying bi is better as the umbrella because it's more known. but like....using it will it help it become more known????

as for people saying "bi and lesbian" sometimes it's because the person doesn't support other mspecs (or aspecs/other queers), sometimes it's well meaning or using bi as an umbrella, and sometimes it's genuinely because only bi and lesbian is being discussed.

so the only way to really know why someone is using a certain term or phrase over a different one is to check their blog/acc or gather context from the rest of the post. it's not as cut and dry as "everyone who doesn't use mspec hates non-bi mspec people" ya know?

There are multi- flags but not specifically for multi- spectrum (mspec). But I can make one if you request.
