Idk about psychological reasoning. Part of me tends to think it’s maybe a fascination with a taboo subculture where because we live in a world obsessed with thinness that we love fat and how subversive it is to get fat in a thin world. Part of me thinks it could also be because the punk rock attitude of saying “fuck body norms” and embracing gaining as a counterculture movement. Part of me thinks it could be about gender identity and finding a relationship with our bodies where we feel most ourselves in a body that is bigger.
Also I think that we’re very very lucky to live in an age where there is major combination of flavors and access to cuisine around the world. We are able to eat foods that our ancestors never had access to and we’d be foolish not to try them. Food is just too good 🤷♂️
