Organizing Ourselves

Scheduling

The staring date of this game is TBD based on any response we get here!

This game will ask for a weekly commitment of 3-5 hours. The day on which we play each week will have to be negotiated based on everyone's availability, and the length of sessions will always be flexible. We would like to prioritize meeting every week over meeting for a full 5 hours each time. We find this is much better for maintaining story momentum and retention of narratives, even if we only meet for 3 hours! Energy is everything in these games!

We all have lives outside the game, and so we will always understand if a week off from the game is necessary for you! All you need to do is let us know! Don't force yourselves to play if you really can't commit that day. A little time off is something you can always feel free to ask for.

Communication

Discord is the program we make use of for our online games. A custom server will host our game, where a bot will be able to assist with online dice rolling directly in-chat!

We only game via voice call, no video chats required!

In this game, player communication with each other and the GM will be essential to building a rewarding experience for everyone! By talking with each other about goals and ideas, we can all contribute to the campaign's narrative.

Please be prepared to check on Discord frequently. This will be our main means of communication, and Alex will no doubt have lots to chat with you about regarding game building!

Content & Consent

Once we get talking with our new players about the gameplay itself, we'll pass out a content consent form. You need not feel obligated to fill it out in its entirety, it's really more of a concise list of content that you can browse. Let us know what you're explicitly NOT okay with and we'll be happy to work with those boundaries.

However! As this is a Vampire the Masquerade game, there are a few themes inherent in the setting that can't really be omitted. The following list are things we are likely to encounter:

Blood

Addiction

Systemic violence

Depictions of mental illness

Moderate to extreme violence

Moderate to extreme drug use

Exploitation/victimization of others

Violation of emotional, mental, and bodily autonomy (This includes Player Characters, because mind control is a thing lots of Kindred can do, and also Frenzy is a mechanical consequence that results in a loss of player control over their characters.)

Sexual Themes (Vampires are sexy, but this isn't a sex game. In our games, a rule of thumb is that if a scene involving sexually explicit activity is going to take place, we set it up narratively and then we "Fade to Black" and pick up the scene elsewhere. There shall be no sexual roleplaying in this game!)

Harm to animals (We do not intend to needlessly portray any graphic animal suffering, but animals will be present in the cast, and therefore they will be in danger.)

If you don't feel comfortable encountering any of these themes, this may not be the game for you! No shame in that~

The Chronicle

Concept

The Players will be in what's known as a 'Vehme Coterie' i.e. a team of Kindred used to keep the Masquerade intact for the Camarilla of Chicago (a different cast from Chicago by Night!). This means you'll be playing a cover-up crew that does everything from the destruction of evidence, blackmail, threatening and mind wiping of witnesses, and inflicting brutality and murders on people that maybe don't deserve it. This wont be everything though, you'll still have your own unlives and such, but it'll be the spine of the game.

With the rise of the conspiracy the Kindred call the Second Inquisition the Masquerade has become more important than ever to Cammy AND Anarch Vampires – not just because regular mortals might turn on you, but because they already have, the Vampires still standing are the ones that haven't been found yet. However, despite the importance of this job, you are still part of a corrupt establishment that favors the preservation of its own elites and easily casts off those the Camarilla deems lesser, and you will ultimately be complicit in that.

The broad themes are about reckoning with the roles that the Player Characters have willingly and enthusiastically done for the benefits and advancement it provides, the futures they can claim, and those that want what they have (or despise them for what they've done), especially in a Kindred scene that is unraveling as its prince does

The Coterie So Far

Kelly Greene Malkavian He/Him

Drug lord and owner/operator of The Crawlspace night club, a prime feeding ground for a select ring of Kindred.

Ratmaster and Architect- creates custom Haven or business designs and produces highly trained domestic rats for various Kindred needs.

There are a few things we would like our prospective players to avoid when planning their Kindred!

No players under the age of 20

No child vampires, please

No twee good boys, the only good Kindred is a dead one

No rape or sexual assault-based backstories

No doubling up on clans already spoken for in the Coterie

Making A Monster

You may feel tempted to go ahead and write up your own character sheet as soon as possible! We understand the allure of a blank sheet.

We recommend, especially if this is your very first time playing in a Vampire the Masquerade game, that you allow our GM to assist in putting together your character sheets. There's not an insane number of parts in this machine, but there are a few small mistakes that could lead to complications or unforeseen consequences farther down the road. To avoid this and to give you your ideal experience, we'd like to work closely with you on building your characters! This will also give you and the GM plenty of time to beautifully knit your Vampires into the larger plot!
