Making a character who fits transmisogynistic media tropes is harmful and maybe rooted in ignorance but then leaving the character's gender identity up to interpretation feels intentionally cruel.
It reinforces the idea that trans women cannot be trusted and that their gender is subjective to whomever perceives them.
Trans people's gender are not up to interpretation.
