SUSTAINABILITY 101: 5 simple ways you (yes you!) can be environmentally friendly
1. Try cutting your showers down to 5 min or less. This may be difficult for those who enjoy long showers, so try starting by taking one quick shower a week and shortening them from there! WHY THIS HELPS: It majorly conserves water
2. Buy secondhand! This doesn't just pertain to clothes, you can buy nearly everything secondhand. Try checking your local thrift/charity shops or Ebay before buying something brand new. WHY THIS HELPS: Reusing things decreases the demand for new things to be made, cutting down on waste :)
3. If you are in college, try using solely online textbooks (or getting them secondhand). WHY THIS HELPS: It saves paper, and saves you money
4. Cut down on plastic. This may be hard as our civilization is practically built on it now. Some easy ways to do this (if it is within your means) is to buy food in paper or glass packaging (both are recyclable!), ask for no lid or straw at coffee shops, buy only the shoes you need, ask for paper bags at the grocery store, and carrying a reusable water bottle (you can buy these at a range of prices)! WHY THIS HELPS: Plastic sucks! Its not good for the landfills, its not good for the oceans, and it is not good for us
5. Set Ecosia as your browser! Every time you hit 45 searches, it plants a tree! So far, in one year I have planted 34 trees. This is just by doing normal internet searches! The company is super transparent and you see where 100% of their funds go. I cannot recommend this enough! WHY THIS HELPS: Planting trees helps decrease CO2 (no bueno), helps local communities (ecosia has a bunch of great stories!), and reduces air pollution :)
