"Plastic art is great! Yet, it often feels like an unreal thought—unbelievable, inconvenient, in need of redressal."
As part of my exploration process of the Mayfly through plastics as an alternative and workable material for other uses other than its first conceptional use. I experimented in Studio 1 /sewing materials room by using the iron to create these 3d pieces out of used plastic bags/netting and hessian.
To capture these images of them I continued to experiment with light boxes and in preparation for our end of semester showcase for first year I hung them from the ceiling to gauge how they might be used as part of an installation. The end result wasn't fantastic but I did learn to use my space from a different angle than I usually would.
Artists are usually ahead of the curve when it comes to being green. The artists featured here exclusively use recycled and/or trash to make

I'm discovering how mailable plastic is as a material as part of my discovery into texture and shape.
Under an iron I made sheets of plastic from 5 layers of plastic shopping bags and cut them into strips ready for use to weave.

Plastic has become marine debris that poses a threat to the environment. It has caused detrimental effects to the marine ecosystem. Humans throw plastics in the ocean, overtime breakdown into micro plastic, the fish eats it, the fisherman catches the fish, the fish goes to the wet market, the fishmonger sells the fish, and humans buy the fish and cook it for the family's livelihood. It's an infinite vicious cycle and a never-ending story. This artwork resonates well with a typical daily life of being a Singaporean. Queueing. Plastic bottle caps are seen queueing almost for everything. Queue for food, buying lottery tickets, boarding public transport, medical appointments, registration and other activities. Singaporeans' favourite pastime. Besides just about queueing, there is a very important message to convey. That is, making our everyday lifestyle more sustainably conscious in helping to save the planet. The Earth is in distress, please do not add on to the stress.
