If I had a nickel for every time I joined the fandom of an old-ish piece of media due to the intriguing vibes of an upcoming reboot only to become completely fascinated by the deeply fucked-up and codependent relationship of the light-haired not-quite-human protagonist (who is full of whimsy and joy) and his identical twin antagonist brother (who is kinda evil and definitely autistic) whose obvious incestuous overtones are blatantly ignored by a good chunk of the younger side of the fandom for weird moral superiority reasons despite it being one of the main driving forces of the plot.
