"For all the things that you never ever told me, and all the smiles that are ever gonna haunt me"
Had to take a break from drawing for a bit cause I moved into my first apartment and started a new job! So I doodled my doomed sibling oc's to get back in the groove. Lyrics from the ghost of you by my chemical romance, and more about the characters here!

Some more details about the magic system for planetaries because I am incapable of shutting up about my oc's lately
Sun magic: fire and energy. Color is gold
Moon magic: sleep, dreams, and subconscious. Color is green
Mercury magic: speed and telepathy. Color is orange
Venus magic: illusions and healing. Color is pink
Mars magic: strength, rock, and metal. Color is red
Jupiter magic: electricity and gravity. Color is purple
Saturn magic: time and shields. Color is pale yellow
Uranus magic: wind/air. Color is light blue
Neptune magic: water/ice. Color is dark blue
Pluto magic: death and decay. Color is black
Each person is born with a mark somewhere on their body that indicates which celestial deity is their patron. For example, Kalys's sun mark is very visible on her neck
Every celestial deity is associated with a color, and the person's mark will glow faintly with that color when they use their magic
Everyone has the potential to learn how to use the magic of their celestial body, but most choose not to without good reason. I like to think of it like how martial arts is in the real world: pretty much anyone can learn karate, but it takes so much time and training to learn that most won't unless they have a use for it (though many also do just for fun, of course)
The specific powers associated with each deity were inspired partly by the actual attributes of the celestial bodies (ex. mercury magic includes speed because mercury has the fastest orbit), partly by the attributes of the roman gods they're named for (ex. jupiter magic includes electricity because jupiter was the god of thunder), and partly by general cultural associations (ex. moon magic includes sleep because most people are asleep when the moon is out). I'd be happy to further explain my thought process behind each different magic type if anyone asks teehee
The celestial deities are themselves gods and are referred to both as the names of the planets/roman gods and the equivalent greek gods (ex. Neptune referred to interchangeably as Neptune or Poseidon). The sun deity is referred to primarily as Apollo but sometimes as Helios, and the moon deity is referred to interchangeably as Artemis, Diana, and Selene
Important to note however that the deities are very much not the same deities as the ones from greek and roman mythology, I just use the same names because it felt right to have multiple names for each deity and would get confusing to make up my own when there are obvious options right there
Been thinking more about Planetaries again - on two levels: should we anticipate more appearances from them in the main sequence books to come? Also, while we hear from Earth's planetary, I don't recall the *Earth* speaking up - in-universe, is that something that happens often? Or is it more like the Powers, where any 'speaking' is strictly an indirect matter? (Can celestial bodies be wizards? ... Wait, we know that one, silly question. XD)
In reverse order:
(b) When a planet has a species sufficiently evolved (in the wizardly sense, which is complex) for a member of it to hold the office of Planetary, they do the speaking for the planet. Worlds without sufficiently advanced species, or holding the space for one that may appear at a later date, will either speak for themselves or nominate another world's Planetary to handle that for them, depending on the situation that obtains. Worlds that are the dominant species will, as we've seen, also speak for themselves.
(a) You're not really expecting me to answer that, are you? Didn't think so. (chortle)
+some more info about all of them and the story under the cut (last post here has more context)
as I said in the last post, Kalys is the protagonist of From the Sun and has been around longer than any of my other characters (at least of the ones I still use ever)
her brother, Arien, was about eight years older than her
Kalys doesn't know anything about their biological parents, in part due to Arien always dodging the question when asked about them
Arien was considered a prodigy in sun magic, and was well-respected by the community as he got older
after his passing, many people hope for Kalys to be his successor, and she tries her best to fill his shoes despite not sharing the natural talent that Arien possessed
Arien taught Kalys the basics of how to fight and use sun magic, but was always terrible at explaining things because of how naturally they came to him
Of these characters, Kalys and Cyra are sun magic users, Vander is a neptune magic user, Peitho is a venus magic user, and Liry is a moon magic user
Vander is the adoptive father to Arien and Kalys, though his job as a fisherman meant he was often gone for long periods of time as they were growing up
Vander took in the siblings when Arien was ten and Kalys was two, after having found them alone and in danger near the harbor, and quickly came to care deeply about both of them
(Being a neptune magic user gives you water powers too, which is very convenient for raising two fire-powered kids lol)
Peitho is a fugitive operating an underground fighting ring that allows for unrestricted use of magic, unlike legal establishments of the same variety
Peitho's blind in one eye, and uses his illusion magic to hide significant burn scars that cover much of the right side of his body
(Also side note about Peitho, I designed him years before I became insane about either aventurine hsr or kaoru hakaze please you have to believe me-)
Liry is a former assassin who betrayed the organization she came from and is doing everything in her power to distance herself from her past (she's also a trans woman which will be very significant to her arc)
There's really basically nothing I can say about Cyra that isn't spoiling but trust she's gonna be one of the most important characters and she makes me crazy insane, just wait 🙏🙏

Since people wanted to see my oc's... first fully colored art I've done of any non-fandom related characters in literal years omg I really missed drawing these guys
Some yapping about these two and the universe/story they're from under the cut if you want more context :D
this universe has been in development since I was around 14 years old (I'm 20 now for reference) though the only things that have remained consistent since the beginning are 1) the magic system and 2) the two main characters
the magic system is based around the planets in our solar system plus the sun and moon - every person is born with an innate connection to a celestial deity and that determines what kinds of magic they have access to
the two in this drawing are Theo (the one with glasses and longer black hair), a moon magic user, and Arien (the one with fluffy brown hair and big brown eyes like a baby cow), a sun magic user (it's cause I'm always on that damn sun and moon yaoi)
the main characters are Theo and the actual protagonist, Arien's younger sister, Kalys (also a sun magic user) (I will probably draw her soon too !!!)
the story begins with Arien's mysterious death. Before that happens, he entrusts Theo to watch over Kalys, and he reluctantly takes her under his wing to protect what was most important to his late friend
Theo introduces Kalys to the city's underbelly that Arien had kept her blissfully ignorant of until he died, and they work together to solve the mystery surrounding Arien's death
there's some symbolism in this piece regarding the specific dynamic Theo and Arien had, but I don't wanna give away too much just yet hehe
the name I use for the universe is planetaries but the title I actually plan on using if/when I really make something with this concept is "From the Sun"
Heroics List: Instanced Vs. Not Instanced Flashpoints, Operations, and Heroic Missions
Double xp is coming up again (11/28 - 12/5) so I thought I’d share this list. I like to run heroics because it’s great xp and credits but I go nuts doing open world heroics because I get too stressed out about people ganking stuff. This list will tell you which heroics are completely instanced so you can do just those instead if you’d like. Hope it helps. :)
